Harry P. Posted December 3, 2015 Author Posted December 3, 2015 Steve, you're right. Geography makes the difference. Here in Chicago, Men Without Hats had ONE song that ever got any airplay... the one I posted. Same with Dexie's Midnight Runners (Come On, Eileen)... that ONE song got airplay here, no others
kitbash1 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Steve, you're right. Geography makes the difference. Here in Chicago, Men Without Hats had ONE song that ever got any airplay... the one I posted. Same with Dexie's Midnight Runners (Come On, Eileen)... that ONE song got airplay here, no othersAnd that's what happened with Sugar Loaf and Don't call us, We'll call you. The same happened with a band from Quebec called The Box. They had multiple hits in their home province of Quebec, but were one hit wonders in the rest of Canada with their song Live on TV ( you can watch them die )
madhorseman Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Then probably the same could be said for this band: I used to play the heck out of this album, but they didn't receive much more airplay than this. Edited December 4, 2015 by madhorseman

Can-Con Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Never understood the After the fire and then Falco but both seem to be the sameSorry RoyFalco's song, the ATF version was a cover actually released over a year later AFTER the band broke up. The german lyrics don't translate that close to the english either.Laura Branigan also did a cover of it a year after titled Deep in the Dark with completely differnt lyrics Falco wasn't a one hit wonder though. "Rock Me Amadeus" was huge and there were a couple more but then again, maybe not in the US, Eh? Edited December 4, 2015 by Can-Con

madhorseman Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 After seeing the posts about John Travolta, and Hutch, remember Bruce Willis and Don Johnson it that group too.
Can-Con Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I think that Rock Me Amadeus was made popular due in part to the movie with Tom Hulce.Could be, The movie came out the year before the song.
STYRENE-SURFER Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 When I first heard the Castaways I was five years old and living in Los Altos California, This song was on the radio allot along with other great regional music that became popular.( Surfin' bird was huge.) The Band was actually from the midwest. Here is another one.
Aaronw Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Timbuk 3 The Futures so bright I gotta wear shades They only had the one big hit, but actually recorded 5 or 6 albums.

STYRENE-SURFER Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Ram Jam Black Betty One of my favorites, the volume goes to 11 still today . Andy, I have never seen this vid before. but the song is part of my audial deoxyribonucleic acid. Cool.
1930fordpickup Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 (edited) Kurt this is the only Video of this song I have watched. LOL Funny how that works. I was reading on Wiki ( so not sure how true it is ) that this band was formed for this song. The lead singer already recorded it with a different band. It is yet another remake on this list of one hit wonders. This is a modified Leadbelly song , as the original song was only 59 seconds long. Edited December 5, 2015 by 1930fordpickup
