Dominik Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 i don't think about the laws for the vehicles and think that way Rob: would i drive offroad, thru the outback without windshield on dusty tracks? without lights in the dark? without rollcage or helmet? without 4WD? No. A poll would be fine.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Well, looks like the Australian one is going to get it. Dunno if I'm going to participate, I'll see what others are cooking up when it starts.
TFchronos Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) I was going to do a poll but looking at the posts it seems like the Outback run would be the overall winner. So if it's good with everyone then shall we call it and do the Assuieball Australian Outback theme for next years theme? Of course if you guys still want a poll I'll put one up, either way is fine with me. It's my first year handling this so I want to make sure everyone feels like they got a fair shake on deciding the theme and throughout the build next year. I for one am definently okay with it the Outback run. I really like the challenges it presents, had my entry picked out the moment the idea was suggested and Rays additions to it just made it all the more appetizing to me. v Maybe, I don't know, at any rate typo lol. Lunajammer Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 ... then shall we call it and do the Assuieball...Is that a French pastry?
Jantrix Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 So if it's good with everyone then shall we call it and do the Assuieball for next years theme? Yep.
Pat Minarick Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 One of the long standing rules (at least when I ran the CBP) was that the car must "appear street legal". Read into that whatever you want.I was more wondering about street legal tires since it would be off road and on road ,or a buggy that wouldn't have a windshield. And would it have to have plates and quiet exhaust .
lysleder Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Well, that is the beauty of this particular challenge. You set your design parameters so that your ride is a compromise that will work both on and off road. Edited December 8, 2015 by lysleder
bill_67 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) What every it's called Outbackrun, Aussieball sounds like great fun. Count me in, it would have been my first choice anyway. The 2 years I have been participating have been a lot fun! Edited December 9, 2015 by bill_67
Erik Smith Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Should be interesting! Extreme reliability, extra storage capacity, off road capable, and fast...very fast. Oh, and a way to ward off aggressive bull camels.
Jantrix Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) Hmmm. I recommend a Google search on "vintage baja racer". Edited December 9, 2015 by Jantrix
TFchronos Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) Okay everyone, if we've got more yays than nays (looking like it) by Saturday then we'll do it. Edited December 9, 2015 by TFchronos
Belugawrx Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Awesome, lookin' forward to this one,.. Think I'll try 4byin'... This! Of course I will need to add lights, wipers, and a ton of other Cool STuff lol
Erik Smith Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Will there be an actual route established? Would be cool to see how much we plan for dirt, hardtop, and actual four wheeling! All considerations for me on how aggressive each element of the car will be built. Rob is right - Google some vintage baja stuff! Way cool! Edited December 10, 2015 by Erik Smith
TFchronos Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Ray suggested a Darwin to Adelaide route. If I'm following correctly the Old Ghan route is where the off roading would happen.
Helix Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 That's correct Jonathan! As I stated before, the red route is the current rail line from Adelaide to Darwin and the main highway runs pretty much parallel with this. The only exception is If you draw a line from Pimba to Coober Pedy then onto Alice Springs that is where the main highway runs along. The old Ghan route in yellow is a well used track I might add with many outback tourists tackling the old route
JTalmage Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Every time I hear/read the name Alice Springs, and Adelaide, I think of "Chopper Reid does the weather" from the Ronny Johns show

Erik Smith Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Does look cool. Beware: animals and campervans...
