So you painted right over the BMF ?

I prime it with duplicolor primer, then wet a q tip in thinner and clean off primer from all the trim I want Chrome. Then paint it with a brush for final color

That is awesome, thank you for taking the time to explain it.

I saw that too with the rubbed off painted lines, great touch.   Looks convincing to me.  I'm no expert, but the Caterpillar color looks good too.  What brand is it?

Thanks guys, I've just be following a guy on YouTube that's been showing dash detailing so I used some of his method. Only I prefer to use bare metal foil as the base layer so you can get the chrome trim effect. It's just black washes in the gauges.

for wood grain I paint the whole area in tan, then put random lines of dark brown and black around. Then go over with really thinned down tamiya clear red, or orange depending on the color you want the wood, clear yellow could be used to,Then I clear everything and then go back with black artist oil to add some depth.  Just add it in some spots right from the tube and lightly blend it out. I don't use it like a "wash"

HI -- could you share the link to the YouTube video you mentioned ?

Thanks!

I painted the rest of the engine parts up and did a bit more dry brushing with the oil paints.

i thought a red fan would stick out better in the model

also got the wheels finished. kit chrome with artist oil over top to make them look more aluminumish lol.

Beautiful! What did you use to weather the tires? Is that artist oil as well, or did you use an airbrush for those?

So --  with the "kit chrome with artist oil over top to make them look more aluminumish " --

What is "artist oil" ?   and is that sprayed or brushed on  ?

Thanks

it's the oil paints that come in a squeeze tube that painters use. It is brushed on.

@KJ, yes I use the oil paint on the tires and rims to kinda like a drybrushing with it.

Very nice job on everything! I have two questions. Did you paint the engine with a steel color before the yellow and then chip the yellow away for the worn areas or did you dry brush the srell colir on afterwards? Second, what did you use for chain on the oil fill cap?

no I just primered it with grey primer, and painted everything on after. I've tried that other chipping method and found it was a lot more work to get the same effect!  I just kinda blob on a bunch of a dark black/brown mix of craft paint and then use a q-tip to remove it randomly to get the chipping. I do go back and highlight a few of the edges with a lighter yellow though

I was wondering when someone would notice the chain lol, it is just a spare photo-etch chain i had left over from a 1/35 scale Dragon jeep kit.

Thanks -- could you post a picture of the paint tube you used ?   I'd love to try this.

It looks super.

Now that is some really fine weathering ! I like the little chain.I was wondering where you got it. I also noticed that you took the time to do a good

job of removing the join seams.on the motor and tranny.   Good job on it.
