The stripes also caused me to rethink the wheels. The bigger wheels started to look distracting, fighting for attention with the stripes (without stripes, the car seems to need the bigger wheels). I set the Maisto 1/24 scale Mustang 18's back under it, and to my eyes it just works, regardless of the mix 'n match nature of this model. If I were to have a stock set of 1/24 scale GT500 wheels I doubt they'd look any better. I may try some other wheels, though I think these GT wheels will be the final look:

I like the set up, but wonder how the big wheel setup would look like if you add the brake disks (with red or blue brake thingies, what's it called?)

Another rethink of the wheels; I had a set of 19" Porsche Cayman wheels that look good, almost GT500 KR style. They will fit my Fujimi brakes very well. The engine/interior/glass went in w/o any problems. The kit seems very well engineered. I did replace the smallish and too-far-inset headlamps w/some craft store faux MV lenses.

I love the different wheel combinations, the cayman wheels i believe to be the best choice.

went on maisto's web page looking for a set of tires/wheels to throw under my jada shelby gt500...

i guess they don't sell these seperately :)

so if ya find a set of wheels ya like, buy the model, remove the tires/wheels & dump the rest...

kinda of a waste, but at $12.95 not a bad price for a set of tires/wheels

anybody want an infiniti fx w/o tires & wheels? ;)

I score the diecasts when they're cheap or on sale. Got the FX "assembly line" kit from Hobby Lobby, the kits have two sets of wheels. Probably paid 8 or 9 bucks for it. I have quite a scrapyard of Maisto models w/o any wheels

If you have a local KB Toy Liquidators store they can be a good source of Maisto diecasts, also you can check Wal Mart, ours has some of the 1/24 Maisto cars for $5.98.

Okay, a few more photos. Model is the same size as a 1/24 Maisto GT. Therefore Maisto wheels fit it just fine. I tried it w/std. GT wheels, Concept CV wheels, and Infiniti FX wheels that look like the love children from Parnelli Jones and Saleen GT's. You can see the chassis has decent detail, and is tubbed for the wider tires. I didn't shoot the bling wheels from the kit, nor the clear parts. Note the boxart model has opening doors and the grille isn't inset. Obviously was a Jada diecast, it's got a lot of differences from the actual plastic kit in the box. Jada has really surprised me with this one. They beat Revell's Uptown kits handily, and thankfully avoided the silly scissor doors. Both Jada and Revell need to learn how to do effective boxart photos, especially when it comes to pictures of the actual model.

That model looks alot better than the one Revell is coming out with. The stance is alot better. I've seen these kits before and they do need to inprove on the box art, because it just really looked crappy and made me not want to buy one, before you showed me the body and the wheels.

I thought that color was Brittany blue. Oh well, nice car. My dad tried to trade his F-150 for one of those V-6 Mustangs, but they didn't offer him enough money for his truck.

This topic was useful to me because it made me realise just how good this kit it.
