While I'm not excited about this release myself, I know that a lot of people will be. But I do wonder if this could possibly foreshadow the eventual release of the AMT Kenworth W923/W925. Time will tell.

Well the Super Boss and Bandag Bandit doesn't have the same cab and hood as the regular W925/923, so who knows...maybe if Round 2 think it's worth the money to restore the tooling for the W925/923 wich apperantly was destroyed when the T600 were made....I hope they do...and reissue the Alaskan Hauler.

I had one as a kid the decals were a nightmare for me on it but would still welcome another to try.

I had trouble with the decals myself and that's why my first Super Boss build is still undone.

I've said it a few times already, but I'll say it again, I'm good for a couple of these just for that Buzzin' Dozen engine. I'm pretty sure I can come up with a use or two for the remainder.

Håkan, never having seen the actual AMT Super Boss or Bandag Bandit kits, I cannot verify what you say about them having different cabs than the AMT W923/925 kits. I can say that the photo of the actual Super Boss shows it with the 1973-82 cab (since it is a 1974 Kenworth W900, the Bandag Bandit was a 1978 with square hedlights) while the AMT W923/925 kits have the 1968-72 cab. It wouldn't surprise me if AMT used the 1968-72 cab on the Super Boss & Bandag Bandit kits back in the day.

I wonder how difficult it would be to convert the hood into a stock long hood for a W900L. Probably have to steal the hood from the Revell of Germany W900/T900 kit. Does the Super Boss kit come with a long hood? It looks like the actual truck in the picture might have a long hood. The kit does come with a Detroit Diesel 12V-71TT hooked to an Allison HT-750 5-speed automatic, right?

Jim, I have all of the Malone kits and the regular W923/925 and the Malone kits are different from the W923/925, both the Super Boss and Bandag Bandit are pretty much the same except for a few things.
Yes both Malone race trucks have a DD 12V-71TT but they are not exactly the same as the turbo setups are different on the two like they are in real life.
You are right about the W923/925, it had the earlier 1968-72 cab with the older style door handles...but both the Malone kits have the later 1973-82 cab with the paddle latch door handles and the side skirts are molded to the cab.
The hoods are also different from the regular W900, they are long hoods and the Super Boss hood has a spoiler molded on under the grille, regular round headlights and a hole for the scoop on top and some holes to mount the wings.
The Bandag Bandit also has a long hood and has the same spoiler molded on as the Super Boss has, but the lights are not standard KW square headlights, I have never seen this exact type on any other W900 so I did some research and the headlights for the Bandit looks to be taken from a 1977 Buick Regal, a pitch fork scoop up top are also molded to the hood and one scoop on each side you glue on.

So the regular W900 and the Malone race trucks are made from totally different tooling but you could probably use the cab and hood if you cut off the side skirts and spoilers and put it on a regular W900 chassis.

Follow the links and you will get the instructions for them and you will get an idea on how they are made up.

One thing tho', the real Bandag Bandit that's on display at the Iowa 80 Truckstop Museum today has an older 68-72 cab with an all black interrior as the original cab probably got damaged when Malone's shop in Bakersfield Ca cought fire, so they must have changed it after that and it got a slightly different paint job, before it had the 73-82 cab with a grey-white-blue and yellow interrior.

This is great news! I have been thinking it would be cool to build a modern version using a Lonestar cab.

I have seen a few photos here and there of a Peterbuilt version that I believe is owned by the same guy who owns the Boss now.

Does anyone know of a website that would have more photos and info? I think he goes by Stagecoach motorsports but I can't find a website. Can't think of the name of the Peterbuilt right now.

I can think of several projects I can use parts for. I never finished my Boss as a kid and I not even sure where it got to. I had a bunch of problems with it for some reason. I still come across some small parts in my parts boxes occasionally. I do still have the Bandit and it is relatively complete. I planned to rebuild it at some point but I'm missing both headlights. For some reason the Bandit went toghether much easier. Maybe I learned how to overcome the pitfalls on the Boss. I did make the mistake of painting it dark blue based on the way the real one looked on the box. From the photos I see of it now, apparently it is/was painted black.

BTW the Bandit headlights are from a 77 Buick Regal. We owned a brand new 77 Regal when this kit came out. 77 Olds Cutlass lights were similar but just slightly different.

I have a built one, but i can't take it apart to rebuild since it's one of my favorite model build by my dad..

He passed away five years ago, and i want to build this kit as a tribute to him.

I believe many painted the Bandit dark blue and it was even called out on the box that the exterior should be blue...but as far as I know the real truck has allways been black

I don't think Gary Ries (Stage Coach) has a website, but Ken Harris has quite some pictures of that Peterbilt truck on his fotki album together with lots of pictures of the Malone trucks.

Not to nitpick but there is no "u" in Peterbilt.

If you look close at the decals you will see red pin stripe beside the lite blue ,at is correct for the super boss ,this decal sheet is Awesome ! and the tires are spot on . two thumbs up for Round 2 bringing back this truck kit. Now I just hope when or if they do the

Bandag Bandit the decal sheet will include the silver pin striping ?
