Frank Anderson Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Here is my most recent build - an AMT '57 T-Bird inspired by a photograph published on Facebook at Annette Funicello's passing... she was a favorite of mine growing up, and when I discovered she had owned a mildly customized T-Bird, I had to try modeling it.
ChrisBcritter Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Nice work! What paint did you use? Now if you want bookends, you can do the Nancy Sinatra 'Bird...
Frank Anderson Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 Thanks for all the kudos! The base kit was a "Vegas" release of the '57-TBird - had to 'de-chrome' the body by judicious sanding and deleting the 'continental kit' founf in the kit.Color is Testors Purplelicious sprayed from the can ( as perfect a match from the picture as I would ever get )Wheels are Pegasus ( after much research and digging ).Please post and share your build techniques as well - always interested in finding out new or different building styles.
Tom Geiger Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Nice tribute build! I love models with a meaning!
MrObsessive Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 That's a very nice tribute to Annette, and I never knew she owned a T-Bird till now! Now speaking of Nancy Sinatra, here's a video clip of her and her very clean '57 T-Bird. I think this was done circa 1967? I wonder if the T-Bird still exists..................Nancy certainly does!
Tom Geiger Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Nancy's Thunderbird.... still exists! http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Archive/Event/Item/1957-FORD-THUNDERBIRD-CUSTOM-CONVERTIBLE-138998 And Annette's car... Edited January 10, 2016 by Tom Geiger
MrObsessive Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Interesting story about when Annette got the car. The lady in the video says she got it brand new for her 16th birthday which would have been in '58. '57 T-Birds had a extended model year run (till December '57?) because the new for '58 T-Bird wasn't ready yet for new car intro time, which would have been September-October of '57.Just curious if her T-Bird was one of the very late ones built, and was it bought (perhaps by Walt Disney) and just kept for safe keeping till she turned 16? Interesting story just the same!Nancy's T-Bird still looks great after all these years, albeit without the original engine or color. I'll bet it hauls you-know-what down the road though!

Bob Ellis Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Using the AMT '57 TBird, You can build the Movin' With Nancy TBird. From what I understand, Nancy Sinatra got the TBird as a birthday present in 1957. It was pink then, but by 1967 it was dark red with mag wheels, Hurst shifter and some emblems removed. About 1970, Barris painted it yellow with different mags. By 1976 the car was sold to at a Movieland auction in 1976, in storage from 1979 to 2012. Again sold at a Scottsdale auction in 2013 for $50000 with less than 12K miles
horsepower Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Being an old man, who thought that the world revolved around Annette back then, I can remember the story of Annette's new T-Bird, it was a birthday gift to her from her father. Probably bought with her income, but still a gift from Dad.
vintagercr Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Just finished watching Bikini Beach. Nice tribute
