junkyardjeff Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I have a MPC mid 70s stepside that I built in 78 that is getting a restoration and lowered, the front suspension always sat too high in the front when I originally built it so I rigged the rear to match it so today I seperated the front suspension from the frame and ground it and the suspension some so it would be a little lower. I think I am only going to tinker with the suspension right now as I have other projects that I want to finish but needed something to do while paint and glue was drying,I will post some pics after I get it sitting the way I like it and find some better rims.
junkyardjeff Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 Its sitting much better now,it was almost as high as a 4x4 and might have to go a little lower in the rear. Still wanting to make it a base model truck with a 6 cylinder and dog dish hubcaps like with my Dodge truck I am also working on.
Modlbldr Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Nice job lowering the front. That would be an excellent candidate for a freshening up. I have had a couple of those over the years and would love to get a couple more to build.Later-
Ron Hamilton Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Go for it!!! I did one last year. The build is very satisfying, as the '78 Chevy PU is very rare. It is the only one of the series with a 2-wheel drive front end.
junkyardjeff Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 I think I am going to drop it in the rear a little and having a hard time getting a correct hood, the one i got off ebay is wrong and the one I got doing some trading is better but I think its for the Revel version and I need the tail lights. I know where I can get them if I want to spend some money which might just happen tonight.
Longbox55 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 The correct 6 cylinder can be found in the Trumpeter Nova, plus a few resin sources.
Belugawrx Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Never been a fan of the jacked rear (rake is one thing)...I would try to get those rears inside the fenders Might have to sacrifice some width of tire... oh and by the way...If you want a 1960, chev, 6 cylinder, I've got two of 'em ... lemmeno
junkyardjeff Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 As much as I would like a six I do have a Pontiac motor that I might drop in to be different.
Nova-ss Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Nice stance.I see the lowering of the front for a little raked look.I own a real 74 chev stepside.its rusty everywhere but runs and drives well.and the stance of the real truck, has the same raked look as your 25th scale look..good job dude....Chris
Draggon Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I like the stance like it is. Girlfriend had a 75 with a 6 and 3 on the tree and it was a pretty decent little truck around town.
JTalmage Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Reminds me of the truck that was in the movie "The Driver"
junkyardjeff Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Its soaking and most of the paint is off,not sure of the color but thinking a dark metallic brown would be nice.
junkyardjeff Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Body has been stripped and now chassis is soaking.
gatorincebu Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 This looks like an interesting rebuild. I would keep that stance. I think it looks good. Be Well Gator
junkyardjeff Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 Chassis is about stripped and got me thinking what was I thinking as the chassis was originally painted red and the body was orange.
junkyardjeff Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 Its stripped and now to find a dark brown paint
junkyardjeff Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 Got some rootbeer brown paint for it,most likely will get a saddle interior.
Belugawrx Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Got some rootbeer brown paint for it,most likely will get a saddle interior. Cool combo Jeff The stance looks more believable now too,..Well Done so far Cheers Edited February 15, 2016 by Belugawrx Rims Look Great Too
gatorincebu Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 That Root Beer is one of my favorite colors X's 2 Your paint job looks pretty good! Be Well Gator
Modlbldr Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 That paint is looking perfect for that year of truck. I did a 68 Firebird in the Testors Root Beer with Light Ivory interior. It is a nice combo.Later-
