cobraman Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Building this "thing" for my daughter who lives in San Diego and has started to learn how to surf. It's just a little joke gift. Not going to all the trouble of putting up the seams but just smooth them as much as possible. The base is painted black only as an under color. Some material to resemble sand will be applied to the base at some point. Edited January 20, 2016 by cobraman updated and done
wayne swayze Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Looks like fun Ray ! Are you planning a polka-dot bikini like the box art .? It's iddy-biddy , and teensy-weensy.....use a small brush!
Dave Van Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) I have one of those kits....bought when they were blowing them out. Grew up So Cal so kinda hit home. Also reminds me while sitting here in 4 degrees with 40 mph wind that I was in San Diego one year ago today visiting.......a VERY different day!!! Edited January 18, 2016 by Dave Van
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Cool. Those kits are always fun builds.
cobraman Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Looks like fun Ray ! Are you planning a polka-dot bikini like the box art .? It's iddy-biddy , and teensy-weensy.....use a small brush!Yes, polka dots ! Well, as close to dots as I can make them. : )
1930fordpickup Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Ray would dipping a piece of round stock make the dots better. Like a stamp? I think you need to ditch the radio for a smart phone also. Her friends may not know what that radio is. LOL Edited January 19, 2016 by 1930fordpickup
Crazy Ed Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 And as Wayne was leading up to - They ought to be Yellow Poka Dots.
crazyjim Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Looks like a fun build Ray. I saw the 5 piece kit on ebay and have been tossing around buying them.
cobraman Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Here is another mock up. This "thing" is close to being finished. Still needs some touch up and finishing touches.
cobraman Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Next post will be the finished model and white polka dots will have been applied. : )
unclescott58 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Looking forward to seeing the finished item Ray. It looks great now. By the way, because of you I went on eBay and bought the Silly Surfers 5 kit set. Don't know when, if ever, I'll build them. But, at the price on eBay I couldn't pass on the deal. The Hawk Silly Surfers have always been cool. Now, if I could just find one MPC's Hot Curl models. That would be cool too!
cobraman Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I have the other 4 and have no idea what if anything I will ever do with them .
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Nice work. Those kits are always good for slump busters.
cobraman Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 Finished this up this morning. I must admit I enjoyed building and painting this thing. Something different, very different. I hope my daughter will like it. I think I may even do another one of the set of 5 I bought. Who knew ? : ) Pics to follow.... photobucket is down right now.
John Teresi Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Ray.......vey cool and very good.......I built alot of these kits back in the day......just love them
wayne swayze Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Your daughter should love it !! I enjoy the diversity of your builds !
cobraman Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Thanks guys. It was kind of a fun even if silly kit. I think I just might build one of the other ones.
Roadrunner Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Had it when I was a kid, but mine certainly didn't turn out as nice.
