AaronPerkins Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Going to hobby store tonight to pick up my kit. I'll post as soon as I know what it is. Edited January 20, 2016 by AaronPerkins
AaronPerkins Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I'm doing the Kenworth W900. Can some one please change topic from "Saved" to Kenworth W900 please.
Jim B Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Enjoy the kit.Actually, you can change the title by editing the original post.
Jim Whalen Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Hi,I think you may find you can't use this kit as it is a snap kit. However, if you're planning to do a lot of modifications you might be alright - check with Clayton.
AaronPerkins Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I actually sent him a PM telling him I was gonna extend the sleeper more, extend the chassis, then extend the fuel tanks and eerything else that would go along with the extension. I'm also going to build the inside as well i.e.: bigger bed, refrig, cabinets and everything else to fill the extension. Hopefully he comes back and tells me it's good to go.Enjoy the kit.Actually, you can change the title by editing the original post.Thank you for letting me know this.
Jim Whalen Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Sounds like you have some good ideas for the build - I wish you well!
AaronPerkins Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I was under the impression that a "snap" kit just entailed the snap-tite kits. So if anything this was a learning experience. Out of curiosity, is there a way to see if a kit is a "snap" kit prior to purchasing?
AaronPerkins Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 To make things simpler and to know I had a kit I could do I went and picked up the Peterbilt 359 California Hauler. This is my official B.R.B.O. entry.
Petetrucker07 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Sorry for the slow response. Yes your original kit is considered a "snap" kit. This Pete you decided on is an awesome kit. I've built a few. Lookin forward to what you come up with.
Canso65 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I'm looking forward to seeing your build Aaron. You have some great ideas! Rob
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Looking forward to seeing more of this one! Great choice!
Mopar - D Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Going to interesting to see what you decide to do with this Pete.
Jim Whalen Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Good choice with the Pete 359, lots of people were very pleased when it was reissued recently.
AaronPerkins Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 I started the engine this morning. I think this is only my second or third time doing a level three. It's pretty fun so far. Needs a little bit of putty work then the engine is off for painting. I'm liking the kit so far.
gino Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 great kit choice ! glad you are liking it so far. looking forward to your progress !
AaronPerkins Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 Been getting the engine worked on. Still doing some detailing. Having trouble finding right scale belt for pulleys. Using one of my wife's hair bands for now.
AaronPerkins Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 Anyone know where I can find some good detail pics of where all the hoses and stuff start and end at? I really don't know anything about a big rig engine.
Petetrucker07 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Google and search for 359 service manuals. You can also look up truck shows, maybe digging through the pics you can find a 8V71 in a truck.
Petetrucker07 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I also looked through my truck show pics, all I have for Detroits, is a V12 and a 8V92.
Old Buckaroo Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 That is some really nice work you showing there. I dont detail engines anymore - but when I use to. Masking tape cut in thin strips worked really well for belts and can be built up with multiple thickness . Sorry this is the only example I could find
