Mike Chernecki Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) I have been wanting to build a 1969 Jungle Jim Nova for some time. I am looking for recommendations on what parts to use. I understand the Polar Lights Funny Cars have the best chassis, which Polar Lights kit do I look for that has the correct chassis for the Nova? Who makes a suitable resin body for the Nova? Any other information would be appreciated. Edited January 26, 2016 by Mike Chernecki
gtx6970 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 All the Polar lights chassis are the same,,just a different body. Competition resin makes a nice body to this car I'll be tuned in for this one. I saw the restored car a couple years ago at the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green Ky
magicmustang Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) I used a Polar Lights chassis and a modified Chevy engine with an AMT (Old Pro) Nova body. Edited September 13, 2017 by magicmustang
magicmustang Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) Also check out this Hot Rod article and pics of the restored car.http://www.hotrodhotline.com/jungle-jim-liberman-1969-nova-funny-car Edited January 26, 2016 by magicmustang
Mike Chernecki Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 Thanks for the info. I need to start tracking down some parts.
OneTrickPony Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 It looks to me like the Nova body was splashed from a 4-door. The roof looks longer and the back window is more upright than the 2-door.
jwrass Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 MikeSouthern Motor Sports Hobbies has a 1969/70 resin body & Decals (SMH resins pg 1)I have a few of their bodies and they are very nice! I would agree that a Polar Lights would make for a great platform.Other bodies would be from Revell 69 COPO and Revell 69 YenkoIMO Tin work will need to be modified or fabricated to depict 1:1 That's half the fun!Hope this helps!Jimmy "RASS"
Mike Chernecki Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Thanks Jimmy! I have some resin from SMH, good stuff... I will check them out. Btw, anyone know the correct colors for the body and frame? I am assuming hok oriental blue kandy for the body. The frame looks turquoise in some pics, powder blue in others. gtx6970 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Chassis On the 1/1 it was most definitely a light powder blue.
iBorg Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Gerald's color choices are a pretty good match for period color magazine articles. SS/DI had a great article on this car.
Daddyfink Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) And of course, there is the Clare Sanders driven version Edited January 28, 2016 by Daddyfink
