Think there has been some deadly crashes in  NASCAR??? Add 600 volt batteries smashing together and spilling over the fans!!

Go away Bill......please leave us alone.

PS WILL NOT HAPPEN IN MY LIFE TIME.

Usually I am with Bill Nye all the way. But not on this one. Taking gas engines out of NASCAR is like... like... taking away all the beer and souvenir trailers. You think people are pissed NOW about there not being any STOCK in STOCK CAR? Take away fossil fuel motors, and ticket sales will fall flat.

I couldn't agree more!

I'd think about it a second time if I hadn't seen that his bio also refers to him as a comedian.  That explains it.  His silly little essay (NESCAR? Really?) is just a comedy routine.

I'm over it.

Electric cars will kill the sport of auto racing completely and chase off spectators, the sound of the engines are a crucial part of the experience together with the smell of hot oil and exhaust fumes of racing gas, and it should be loud.
For example Formula 1 has lost much of it's appeal since they went to quieter turbo V6 / hybrid engine packages and many I know will not go to another F1 race until the "old" sound is back.
There are a series called Formula E with electric cars...I have seen a couple of races on TV but it isn't for me with the engine sounds gone.

I wonder how much fuel is used at all of the NASCAR races in any given year, versus the amount of fuel used by NFL, NBA, MLB, or NHL teams traveling to/from away games in a season.  Even adding in the fuel used by the trucks toting the cars from race to race, I'd bet NASCAR comes out looking pretty good...

Bill Nye thinks the fuel used in Nascar is wasteful and environmentally un-friendly?

I wonder what he thinks about the batteries needed to run electrics... ?

If you want to see the "tailpipe" on any electric car drive to the power plant and you'll see it, about 200 feet tall belching  black smoke.

Having watched part of a Formula E race (it was all I could handle.....) there's no way ANY NASCAR fan is gonna sit through say 6 hours of an E Race. I kept expecting to see a bunch of Giant Kids with RC controllers standing around the track. Sure it is racing, but not the kind I'd watch.
