afx Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Looking good as always. Those wheels are sweet, they are knock offs only? Thanks Tommy. The tires are just as nice as the wheels. Yes they are knock only. Not sure why my Fotki account has started reducing the photo size but if you click on the picture you can see the image full size. Edited February 8, 2016 by afx
250 Testa Rossa Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 This is going to be a really awesome build. Have you added the suitcase dimples in the trunk yet?
afx Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) This is going to be a really awesome build. Have you added the suitcase dimples in the trunk yet? Thanks Maxx. If I settle on a Daytona or Sebring car I don't need to create the suitcase bumps. They weren't added until the cars went to Europe. In addition my research indicates CSX2301 never received the suitcase bumps. Edited February 8, 2016 by afx
Speedfreak Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) JC, I just looked up Viking blue, and they show several Cobra's in that color, very cool.I also found this link about the 50TH ANNIVERSARY FIA 289 SHELBY COBRA, from Shelby American I thought you might like to see if you already haven't. The car is in Viking Blue, wow:http://www.30npire.com/cars/50th-anniversary-fia-289-shelby-cobra Edited February 8, 2016 by Speedfreak

It looks to be a recreation of CSX2260 which was identified by the yellow nose stripe. Hope my paint comes out even close to that good. Edited February 8, 2016 by afx
Speedfreak Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Ya, that's one beautiful Cobra for sure. I'll take the fiberglass version, lol. Think positive about the painting and it will happen. Edited February 9, 2016 by Speedfreak
GlueTube Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) Hey JC what are you using for primer and how is it applied? As usual, great workmanship. RegardsBrian Kroon Edited February 9, 2016 by GlueTube punctuation
afx Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 Hey JC what are you using for primer and how is it applied? As usual, great workmanship. Regards Brian Kroon Thanks Brian. Because of the body mods I used Dupli-Color High Build primer applied straight from the can. I apply a coat then sand it back around any seams to flatten everything. Once I am happy everything is even I apply another coat. I really like Dupli-Color primer especially the spray pattern of the nozzle - good stuff. Tamiya's primer is also excellent. I also like their standard primer. But beware the color is quite a bit darker.
afx Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) Less we forget what hairy chested beast these cars were. Here is Bob Bondurant firing up CSX2345, which is completely original and unrestored. It is exactly how it appeared in it's final event, a hill climb. CSX2345 was original painted Princess (Viking) blue but was re-sprayed Guardsman Blue (Shelby' team color) for the '65 season. You will notice they didn't bother to mask off the jacking points just sprayed over them Edited February 9, 2016 by afx
Speedfreak Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 god, what a beautiful sound. That car just looks good to me too. What's the big deal about Cobra's anyway?
afx Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 I prefer to build up the HRM carbs before painting. Managed not to lose any of the intake bells but just in case HRM provides a spare.
afx Posted February 12, 2016 Author Posted February 12, 2016 They're even more impressive painted Ray. The best scale Webers I have found.
Speedfreak Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Those are incredible looking carbs JC, I can smell the gasoline. Would this cars engine have run on gasoline? Or, some other fuel mixture? Gonna look good on there. Edited February 12, 2016 by Speedfreak
afx Posted February 12, 2016 Author Posted February 12, 2016 Thanks Maxx. Gene I am 99% sure they used a racing fuel blend. I recall reading a race account recently where the fuel mixture caused an issues. I'll have to look it up to be sure.
GTJUNIOR Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Those Webber 's look amazing. This is coming along beautifully. Can't wait to see more progress.
Ron Hamilton Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Every time I look at your builds JC. I get excited to work on my own stuff.
afx Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Thanks Nie & Tony glad you're enjoying the build. Ron I always enjoy your projects so if I can provide a bit of a spark I am happy to do so. HRM provides resin pins on the bottom of the Webers but I fell more confident with brass rod.
cruz Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH bro, you messing me up with this and worse, I don't have any kind of time to be at the bench....
afx Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH bro, you messing me up with this and worse, I don't have any kind of time to be at the bench.... "You've gota dig deep" "You have to make the time" "You have to give 110%" I've got more.
Speedfreak Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 wow, that looks good JC, can't wait to see it in the car.
