Art Laski Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the comments, guys. Here's a little more progress: I got the lights all hooked up, so now I can get back to building! After the mockup, I'll disassemble the set up, and re-do it when the paint is on. Edited March 20, 2016 by Art Laski
Nytrozilla Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 It is only my fondest wish in the whole entire world that you bring this to DSC in whatever form or state of readiness it may be in.I think I'll double up on my blood pressure meds.
Codi Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 That is really cool Art. I had no idea the battery kit was so large but you made it fit beautifully. Adds a whole other dimension with the lights on. Great build. cheers, tim
Art Laski Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Thanks, guys! I appreciate the comments. Made a box to house the circuit board.
Mooneyzs Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Art.. Some how I missed this update over the weekend. Man this is looking Great. Nice job on everything.
Metalmad Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Art had no idea you had another build going and I'm sure this will be killer when your finished with her.
Art Laski Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Thanks for the comments, guys! I accidentally drilled through the taillight housings trying to get the lights in there, so I needed to fix that. I also found that the donor kit taillights do not match the actual car, so I just redid the whole set up. I made a master for the taillight and a couple of rings on the lathe today, and it's sitting in a mold over night. Tomorrow I will cast some lenses in clear red resin.
Metalmad Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Nice scratch building Art !Art what kind of lath are you working with? Been looking into possibly purchasing one in the future.
Art Laski Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Seth,I am using a Harbor Freight unit at the moment that I got in a partial trade when I sold a different machine. I don't have much tooling and no skills, so I can't tell you whether it's good or not. But for the few simple things I've done so far, it's been just fine.I might be in line to get this traded out for a Sherline, which may be better for me as far as modeling resources using the unit that can help me learn, and proximity to the factory for tools, etc.. I haven't heard any complaints from anyone using a Sherline.Art
Art Laski Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 Thanks, Colby! I got the mold made and one clear resin copy out of the mold. The other one is curing tonight. This clear stuff takes a lot longer to cure that the other stuff.

Dogfish_7 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 You can save allot of space and battery use by using Fiberoptics and LEDs. Yours is looking great!
John Teresi Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Art.......my man,that is just to cool.....great job!!!!!.......AWESOME man!!!!!
Mooneyzs Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Art... man does that taillight look great. You got skills just like Johnny Alclad... your work is impressive and I sure hope you are bringing this to keep me and Randy D company on the projects table... lol
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Beautiful work on those light masters, molds and castings. Nice job integrating the power package into the little car too. Lighting really makes a model come alive.
Art Laski Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 yah I've seen light kits that run off watch batteries! That would have been nice! Could have saved a lot of effort making room!
Art Laski Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 John, Bruce- Thanks for looking in! I really appreciate it. Chris- Thanks for the kind words, my friend. I'm trying really hard to make the main stage at DSC, but time may not be on my side. The upside is that there aren't that many parts, but it always seems like I minimize the estimate in my mind versus what it really takes me to do it!

Dogfish_7 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Really admire all the extra effort Art. This is going to be a Fantastic build.

The upside is that there aren't that many parts, but it always seems like I minimize the estimate in my mind versus what it really takes me to do it! Art... you are welcome. I can relate to you big time on the "time may not be on my side" and estimating time vs the time it really takes. I totally did that big time with the funny car. I really wanted to have to funny car done for DSC but it seems everything has been fighting me the whole way for the past month to 2 months. So I totally underestimated the time it really was going to take to complete. You need to sick a few of John's Minions on the build to help out... lol. I am sure you will be able to get it done in time.
