bubbaman Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 i`ve only started building these cars a little while ago in fact i`m only on my 3rd - i`ve already got surpluss - extra tires an engine almost 2 in fact - and body parts my question is has anyone ever built a complete car out of extra`s - i imagine a couple yrs. of this and i`ll have quite a junk yard -
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) Most of the models I build are from leftover bits and pieces I've amassed over time, and "useless junk" people wanted to get rid of. Edited March 4, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
CometMan Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Yes, some very nice models come out of parts boxes!
Greg Myers Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 That my friend, is a big part of this hobby, not unlike the real world auto recycling yards.
Lunajammer Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 This is so prevalent, that I think you should go to the Under Glass section and invite folks to post pics of theirs. I'd love to see how people have cobbled together their creations.
Foxer Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 This Mouse Rod I thought was the perfect flavor of what you ask ... an old computer mouse cover, some miscellaneous parts and a VW kit I got with another deal and knew I would never build on it's own ... good things come of "useless" parts!
Tom Geiger Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Many of us have huge hoards of parts. Not only the left overs from kits we have built, but we also buy parts just to have on hand. I have bought big bags of misc parts at club meetings and shows. I got one bag that was all small used parts like engine parts, seats, you name it... stuffed like a pillow for $10. It took me weeks to sort through it all and put parts in categories in my small drawer cabinets! But those parts have saved my tail many times. We also buy incomplete kits at club meetings, eBay and at shows. I've bought many kits missing an engine, missing the wheel and tire set, or kits that were started by someone and never finished. When you see them for $5, you buy them knowing you'll get more value out of them than you paid. Sometimes we actually build something from these, the below Model A pickup was a partial started kit that I bought for $5.
Art Anderson Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I've got a pretty good stash of those "white-out" "Correct-Tape" applicators from work that are out of the tape--thinking they could make some cool streamlined remote fenders for a show rod, for that that matter, even a cool custom motorcycle!Art
