Lownslow Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 after a few buttholes specifically uniongoon and modelpullarn made some stereotypical comments about cars i build i decided to take a break from the hobby it didnt even start with hi riders first it was lowriders then imports then got to highriders same bs different cars. if you dont like the car dont look or post some stupid **** especially when its singling out a group of people. till then im gonna go build a real car so i can go be a drug dealer and hang out with big wheel cars and my extended swing arm riding bike friends. a lot of kids like these cars none of them will bother building any if thats the flack they expect.
george 53 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 WAT? You gonna stop buildin your cars cuza what some people say? The heck with those guys, I always thought we built for ourselves an not for anyone else!So someone dont got enuf sense to know how to appericiate anothers hard work an talent, dont let someone get you down over somethin like this,St8t life is hard enuff, dont quit somethin you enjoy doin for anyone,as long as you dont hurt anyone or due illegal sh8t,you shouldnt care what ANYONE says.Stay withit youll only hurt yourself if you gi ve up because of what people say.who knows maybe their just jealous.DO NOT QUIT!
j_nigrelli Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 for what it's worth .... if you quit something in life because of someone else's opinion, you're gonna miss out on a lot of good stuff.
Tonioseven Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Noel, you're better than that. Don't the idiots stop you from doing what you do best.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Hey man don't let some inconsiderent person stop you from doing what you like to do. I've always found that no matter what you do, there will always be ppl who don't like it, but on the other hand there's also alot of ppl who do. It's those who do, that make it worth while. If you're gonna quit, do it because you want to, not because someone doesn't like what you do.
m408 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) I'm not a fan of low riders or "donks", but, I am a fan of model building. Even though those cars would not be my "build of choice", I can appreciate the skills and planning that go into them and will surely view them with appreciation. I don't comment on them because I have little, if any, knowledge of what goes into them. Don't put up the #11 my friend. Keep building, and for those critics, I say F*** em. This may be deleted for language, but I don't care. It needed to be said. Edited April 4, 2008 by m408
crispy Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I don't think Noel is hanging them up because of model building and what he likes to build. More or less someone(s) was judging him and his character because of what he likes. It's unfortunate that their are people out their that still do this. Unfortunately we're all racist, regardless of color creed religion, it's just how things are, but this is a hobby, past time, fun. To be bashed about what you build or like? C'mon.. I normally don't care to join these threads, but I'm getting tired of seeing this in these forums. Get out from behind your keyboards and say that to Noels face. I'll bet it wouldn't happen. I'm, I'm at a loss for words actually. I really wanted to see that big bad Merc finished. I said my piece in the donk thread awhile back. What is wrong with people? It's a hobby. I'll stop here or I'll get long winded, but I plan on making sure I leave a note to those two. Ridiculous. Chris
Zoom Zoom Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm getting pretty tired of people on the various boards who think it's their job to put other people down, that it's their way or the highway. Noel, I can understand how that kind of ###### can poison your outlook on the hobby that's supposed to be fun. Take a break to clear your head if you really need it, but if you quit then they've won. You're not building models for them, you build them for you. Those who put others down the most, you'll notice they're not the ones building anything. Ten to one they're jealous, bitter, and have nothing to add to the hobby other than a bunch of hot air. Screw 'em. Plus, you can enjoy building models and take a break from the boards and the completely unnecessary strife that they manage to put into our lives from time to time.

I fully agree with everyone's response to this absurdity, but especially these two. If someone can't say something constructive they they shouldn't say anything at all. Period. I'm also one of those who's not a big fan of lowriders or donks, but who really cares...that's just my opinion. I'm sure that there are plenty of people who don't like what I build, and sometimes I'm one of them! (Those are the ones I give away). Quit for a while if you need a break, but don't let the buttheads get to you. They're not worth the time. So, sit down and build the best lowrider or DONK you've ever seen. Post it here. RodneyBad Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 ya, What they all said.. Just because 1 or 2 guys don't like your style. Who gives a Frick.. Now get back to work on the Mercedes, I want to know how y'all do that.. (got one on stand-by)
SnuzBox Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Hay there - never stop building...if you stop because some people don't care for your style car - screw em!!! I personally build for myself ALWAYS... I never take my cars, trucks, lowriders, kustoms, drag cars etc to a show because I built, and build, for my own pleasure and break from the daily grind of life... Keep in mind this a hobby plan and simple...so enjoy what you build, build what makes YOU happy and that's that!
MicroNitro Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Noel I have had people at car shows and drag races start ragging on cars that I have built. Before I get mad I think of somthing my dad said to me when I was about 12. "an empty cart rattles most"
Joe Nunes Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) Not much more that I can add to the above Noel except to say that you should be feeling good about the positive comments and friendship displayed here in FAVOR of your not giving up the DONK and Lowrider modeling that you like. I would think the above thoughts would far outway anything negative from the two who aren't mature enough to let you enjoy what you do best. Build on my friend and let us see the results of modeling any subject YOU enjoy to model. Edited April 4, 2008 by rhoadapple
Harry P. Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I agree with Bluesman Mark...you need to develop a thicker skin. Donks are probably THE most polarizing style of car model currently out there. People either love them or HATE them. Such an extreme style doesn't leave much room for sublety...they basically scream out "HEY, LOOK AT ME", and a lot of people don't like that. So a lot of people are going to react negatively to that sort of "in your face" style. But you already know that. You KNOW that donks are going to stir up some emotional responses from people. Everyone has their own opinion, some just express it in a less "politically correct" way. But another person's opinion shouldn't be enough to make you shut yourself down...that's silly. The opinions expressed here are all part of what makes a forum a forum. It's part of the deal. You have to either be able to deal with them, or don't post. But either way, you can't let another person's opinion dictate what you're going to build...or not build. Unpack yer boxes, sit down and get busy.
ajulia Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 VIVE plastic and paint!! In all its shapes sizes colors and personel touches!! I say keep on wit the keepin on!!! after all it is what we make of it!!! peace ajulia

If I like it, I'll post a constructive comment. If I don't like it, I'll just move on to the next post... Regards, Some thoughts on this. First off, I have freely admitted that I'm not into "donks", but that I also have nothing against them nor those that model them, & I never have & never will put down any models of them, (or any other genre or style), here. To each their own. If it's not my thing, I simply don't comment on it. In fact, I rarely comment on any finished builds here. I'm just not the type to say "Great job!!!" over & over. Occasionally a model does catch me in a certain way & I comment on it. I'm more likely however to post my comments in the workbench section as that's where I seem to see the most interesting ideas. The only somewhat "negative" comment I've made there lately was in response to a question that was asked by a builder of a 34 Ford pickup rod, as to how he should go about it, (1 of 2 variations he had in mind), in which I did comment on how the "old skool" rat rod look was not the way they were actually built back in the day, & how the currrent fad had taken it to absurd heights. Now if he hadn't asked for people's opinions on which way he should go, I wouldn't have said anything either way, there's the difference. Secondly, Noel, there's no need to let narrow minded individuals decree what you build or if you build. Build for yourself, not for others, that's what I, (& virtually everyone here), does. We build what interests us. It is your hobby to do with as you please, & in what makes you happy. In my case I'm extremely eclectic, & thus build in a wide range of genres. This helps me in not worrying if what I'm building is accepted by others, or is currently popular. It's what I wanted to build. Finally, I have a question: Is part of this in response to the comment in the thread on donks being in their own section? If so, you do need to consider developing a thicker skin overall, as I read the posts in that thread, & none of them put down any builders here. It was just general commentary & opinions on the popularity of that style of car, & that's going to happen with any group of people in any age range, as we all have different likes & dislikes, & it's human nature to comment on them. Still, there's no need to let such comments make you stop building. Again build for yourself & build what you like. The only person you have to please or impress is you. Don't let others dictate what you should build, & certainly don't let others make you want to stop building. I agree with Bluesman Mark...you need to develop a thicker skin. Donks are probably THE most polarizing style of car model currently out there. People either love them or HATE them. Such an extreme style doesn't leave much room for sublety...they basically scream out "HEY, LOOK AT ME", and a lot of people don't like that. VW Dave Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) A very wise man once said, "we mock what we do not understand." If I took to heart the negative comments and critiques I've heard from every rivet counter and knowitall about what cars I'm into(both in 1:1 and smaller scale), this hobby would be minus yet another....but I also believe another old adage: "That which doesn't kill me, makes me stronger." While I'm no fan of many of the 1:1 donks I see due to glaring safety oversights, IMO seeing them done in scale is a good thing because it means that somebody is doing what we all claim to be into: BUILDING MODEL CARS. Edited April 4, 2008 by VW Dave
BIGTRUCK Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Build them the way you want, with almost 2,500 members and only 2 negative comments you want to hang it up?....it would be an empty board if we all felt this way...I remember ''tuners'' getting a bad rap from ''american muscle'' guys...the ''modern style customs'' getting knocked by ''old schoolers''....so build it , post it and be proud of it, or you'll be accused of putting the model companies out of business for your lack of support by some others that dont matter...
Peter Lombardo Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I think you are being too immature here by letting these juvenile comments drive you from the hobby. Do you build cars for yourself or for the guys who participate in this forum? I for one, build for myself and my pleasure. It is a hobby and a way for me to relax at night after a grueling day at the office. I don’t understand why you feel this way. I must be getting old. Why are you being so thin skinned over a few negative comments? “Lighten’ up Francis†(Stripes)….come on….you build cars that are not what any of us would call “mainstream model subjects†so you might expect that some guys will not appreciate what you build. Having said that, I think you should be able to handle the criticism. Personally, I think you should post more of them. If you see you are getting under their skin with your “Donks†, then have some fun with it. It’s just a little plastic. Listen, from the dawn of time, there have always been people who feel compelled to belittle and bully others. High school teachers say that bulling is one of the biggest problems they face. It is usually those who have little self esteem who feel the need to “Poke at†others. It makes them feel strong and important. It is just so childish. Personally, I don’t build Donks, but I do not feel threatened by them. If that style floats your boat than go for it. Our hobby is all about enjoyment……you might try and find some.
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 What's goin' on... From the looks of your pictures you're definitly serious about this hobby. So the only time you (and when I say "you" I mean it in a general statement) should take a break from it is when you sit there w/ a project in front of ya w/ zero inspiration or you're so aggrivated w/ it you're ready to throw it in the trash. Like Harry said... " Unpack yer boxes, sit down and get busy. "
lordairgtar Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) Time for a little story. I was at a car show last year and like most, really didn't understand the purpose or reason for building a high riding car. I came across a Caprice with a Rolls Royce front grille and headlights. This car was up on high suspension and wheels. The care taker of the car was there and I asked some questions about it. I got to look closely at the workmanship of the chassis, the paint and interior. I was very impressed with it. It was a maroon car that was online and traveled the circuit of car shows. I can't find the car, but, as I said I was really impressed. The build quality was top notch and a lot of money went into it. So Mr. lownslow, don't leave us yet or the hobby. A couple of "nattering nabobs of negativism" shouldn't chase you away. Edited April 4, 2008 by lordairgtar
Clay Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 All I can say is tsk tsk tsk on you for letting someone else decide for you to quit building models You should build what you want and however you want. My 2 cents
Nick F40 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 All I can say is tsk tsk tsk on you for letting someone else decide for you to quit building models You should build what you want and however you want. My 2 cents I agree, besides, I liked that Mercedes! It's like Imports, not too many people here like em, but the few that do, comment and appreciate what you built. It's an expression to you and your personality.
