Greg, I seem to always try and find a corresponding picture to help a modelers question . I'm making a part time living doing trade shows and diorama exhibits . Ok , I'll post a shot of a diorama if that helps

I gladly post pictures if it was easy, as you say a picture says more than 1000 words, It was a lot easier to post pictures with the forum layout we used before the one we use today.
I have tried to post pictures found on the internet (from ebay and other places) to no avail so far as I haven't been able to get it to work so I'm pretty much done trying that, it was very easy with the forum layout before this one where it was an "Insert Image" button beside the "Link" button, click the Image button copy and paste img url from the picture you wanted to show and paste it in the img line and you were done...and it almost allways worked.
I can post pictures from my PB account fine if I use the IMG codes, copy the IMG link and paste directly here into the message box, the picture doesn't appear until after you click the "Submit Reply" button tho'.
I have also been able to post pictures with the "Attach File" feature and upload directly from my computer but I don't want to use that as it takes up space on this server, the "Insert Other Media" feature has never worked for me so far so I have given up on that.
It's easier to post a picture found on internet directly if it's possible instead of having to download it to my computer first, go to my PB account and upload it there, copy the img codes and paste it here...well you can upload a picture from internet to you PB account directly but that pretty much takes the same time.

It's very simple to post photos from the internet.

Just copy & paste.

Find the picture you want, right click on it, click on "copy image".

Then go to the forum, right click anywhere in the text box that you're posting in & click "paste".

Now if you're using a device such as an ipad or other device without a mouse, I can't help you.

I use my good old desk top computer & it's as easy as pie! :)

That is exactly the way to do it!

Sweet, that worked. I didn't know you could do that

A very easy way to put the URL (link to an image) in is to click on the "Source" button to the left.  After you click source, type in <img src=" then put the URL in then finish with ">.   Your finished line will look something like this <img src="http://photobucket/apicture.jpg">

This is the actual HTML code to put a link to a picture in.  You can put in multiple pictures just by hitting the enter key after each picture entry.  Once you have your picture(s) in, just click on "source" again and your pictures will appear.

But that is exactly not what you should be doing! You should be putting your photos in a photo hosting site and posting the link to the photo here, not the photo itself. If you keep copying and pasting photos from the internet, you will quickly run out of your allotted space to post pictures.

Actually, in many cases "copying" an image from the web here only copies the web-address of where the photo is hosted. As long as the other site is up, the photo displays here in a way similar to how PB works, but the photo is not actually hosted on the MCM server. It's called "hot-linking".

I know this to be a fact in many cases from first-hand experience. Some photos I've copied here to illustrate particular technical points have disappeared when the source site has gone down...just as they do when a PB account gets shut off or reshuffled.

Some sites also discourage hot-linking and will shut off access to an image if they see a spike in bandwidth use. In that case, the photo also disappears even though the source site is still up.

In all fairness to everyone on the net, hot-linking is considered kinda rude because it uses bandwidth on the host site the user isn't paying for. Because of that, the most ethical way to copy an image HERE is to copy it on to your OWN hard-drive and then upload it to PB or other photo host, and copy it here from there...but hot-linking an image here will not use up your photo space any more than using PB will.

Unnerstan?

Hmmm... didn't know that. I assumed that when you copy the image, you actually copy the image. Didn't realize that you're just copying the link.

Thanks, perfesser...:D

Very true,

The black Bonneville I posted above is  done exactly as Steve G referred to above. ,,,same as the blue 60 Ford I posted . The Bonneville is on ebay and the ford is on my PB account

To see where the image is hosted , right click on the pic and then click properties . It will show where its hosted.

But I try to not use this method unless its going to be for a very short time to get my point across.

That's what I usually do.

Only when I'm really lazy & just want to post a quick reference photo will I post directly from the net.

I assumed that when you copy the image, you actually copy the image. Didn't realize that you're just copying the link.

Same thing as when you're copying from Photobucket or Fotki.

You're copying the link, not the photo.

Which is why it uses no space on the forum.

Speaking of posting & the internet,

Has anyone noticed that if you do a web search for photos of a car that you have happened to have built a kit of & posted on the forum, sometimes photos of your build will show up in the images?

I thought it was kind of cool, but it just goes to show that everything you post is out there & never going away.

It also illustrates the posting of a link as we've been discussing.

I use Google Chrome, I have tried to right click on the image on several web sites and copy the image url and paste it here but all I got then was the link, no picture showed...like this random picture I took from ebay just now to illustrate.
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/jlAAAOSwDuJWzdGe/s-l1600.jpg

But if I hold the cursor on the image right click and copy and paste it here I get this , it's the same picture as the link above and the url is exactly the same, but I get a picture this time...strange.

s-l1600.jpg

But it was easier to understand with the earlier forum layout, you right clicked on the image you wanted, copied the image url clicked on the "insert image" button on the control panel above the message box here at the forum and paste it on the line there, click ok and you were done...but we have no insert image button now.

Well it seems to work when I right click and copy the image so I'll try that from now on when I want to show somethig I found on internet...but I will mostly use my own PB account anyway.

I miss the preview button to see if all is well before you post. ;)

Amen brother!

Since the major "upgrade" last year (?...or was it longer than that), two functionalities are gone. The first, using the "Insert other media" button followed by the "insert from URL" option, has never worked for me, as has been mentioned by many others. I now either use the image code string from my Photobucket account, or when linking from a third party, I use the old IMG tag HTML syntax.

Secondly, the Preview function has disappeared, so I must edit my posts offline in order to get a reliable result. I find the best approach for posting here that's reliable is to edit off line, save my post in pure text using the most basic HTML coding (like the IMG tag and similar tags for underlining, italics, bold, etc.). and then pasting the result into the reply box. That's how I do my w.i.p. and Under Glass posts. Before the "upgrade" I didn't have to do any of that.

I think posting photos here can be very discouraging if you're a basic Internet user, with unreliable image linking and no way to check your work without first posting your message.

Please at least reinstate the Preview function. Fixing the "insert other media" button so it didn't hang indefinitely would be nice, too.

I would also like to see this preview button.  I have made mistakes because my photobucket works erratic at best since their last update.

Steve , I did the model of The Fish Inn back in 2012. I had no idea that Bing , a search engine would have had such a field day with the pictures I shared to various sites on it's completion . I probably have gotten more calls from Architects than any publication this building had been in .
