Ok, music lovers... what bands/artists from the Great White North do you like?

My personal favorites... Guess Who, BTO (actually an offshoot of Guess Who), Cowboy Junkies, Neil Young, and Tragically Hip.

My all-time favorite Guess Who song...from 1969... B)

I can't post my favorite Tragically Hip song here because they use a naughty word in the lyrics. But I also really like this one of theirs...

Rush

Nickelback

Triumph

Bachman Turner overdrive

Neil Young

I guess that would be my top 5 in no particular order.

Others would be

The Band

Steppen Wolf

Some modern bands...

Redlight Kings

Thousand foot Crutch

Three Days Grace

Think I'll toss in Joni Mitchell. Maybe not Rock n Roll, but an Icon of the Era none the less.

Steppenwolf was Canadian? Who knew. Put them down as my favorite, then.

There was a band out of Vancouver called Odds. They served as Warren Zevon's backing band on one of his tours in the early '90s, which is how I heard of them. (They did an awesome cover of Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan.") Got their CD Bedbugs, which isn't horrible. Dunno if they're still around or not.

Doug & the Slugs

Blue Rodeo

Great Big Sea

And there's several Canadian '80s new wave style bands I liked. such as the Payolas, Strange Advance, Blue Peter. etc.

What, no Shania Twain fans? LOL !

My favorites have been listed here already, great topic Harry!

They've all moved on to Justin Beiber :P

Yup, Steppenwolf was formed in Toronto, so even though all the members aren't Canadian (John Kay was born in Germany, for instance)... technically a Canadian band. Forgot about that. Put them in my list of favorite Canadian bands.

Also Joni Mitchell. Forgot her, too! :o

Oh! What a brain fart! Forgot Gordon Lightfoot. One of the all-time greats in the folk-rock genre and still going strong. B)

So many great songs... too many to list. He's a national treasure. But my favorite...

PS: Just in case anyone's interested...

My favorite Tragically Hip song is "Locked in the Trunk of a Car" from the Fully Completely album. Their best album by far.

There's a word in the lyrics that's not allowed here... but do a youtube search. It's a great song... maybe their best one ever. Don't forget to turn the volume to 11... B)

Mynah Birds , which was a 60's Toronto area band whose members included Neil Young and Rick James .

Has anyone actually heard any of the several tunes they recorded?  As far as I know, one or two appeared on a CD that was a giveaway item at a Motown 50th Anniversary event.  (The Mynah Birds were signed to Motown's Canadian branch, but supposedly nothing was released owing to James having been arrested trying to re-enter the USA).  Only a couple hundred copies of the giveaway CD were pressed from what I was able to gather.

I can't image that Shania fans and Beeper fans would even know who the other one is. :D

There's one or two videos of their recordings floating around on YouTube . I first heard The Mynah Birds some-time in the 90's ; either on some bootleg demo or on some 60's Garage Comp (perhaps a later iteration of Nuggets) . It's beautiful stuff ; the combo of Neil Young's playing and "Ricky" James' vox (along with the other band members' contributions) is too cool !
