69NovaYenko Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) Is there any reputable resin casters out there in resin land that doing a flat hood for the newly tooled 1/25 Revell Camaro? Looking to do a `67-``68 Camaro Z/28. The old AMT tooled Camaro Z/28 hood is to short in length and to wide in width to fit the Revell kit properly. Edited March 26, 2016 by 69NovaYenko
mikemodeler Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Might be worth checking with Norm and Replicas and Miniatures, he has a bunch of similar conversion pieces for other Camaros.
Rob Hall Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 (edited) I haven't seen one made for the Revell '67 Camaro yet, but I have seen vendors with cowl induction style and other style hoods for that kit on eBay, I'm sure one of them will offer one sooner or later...Edit--there are flat hoods available from various resin casters for the Revell '69 Camaro, maybe one of those could be altered to fit. I haven't checked any of the '69 hoods, but thought I read somewhere that they fit the Revell '67 better than the AMT '67/68 hoods.. Edited March 27, 2016 by Rob Hall
Snake45 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Two ideas:1. There might be enough "meat" in the Revell hood to file off the SS candy, and file the two channels into it to make it "flat." If there's not enough meat there, filling the underside with epoxy might get the job done.2 Might be possible to combine the AMT and Revell hoods to get what you want. You say the AMT hood is too wide and too short. Just narrow the sides to fit the Revell body, then saw off the front 1/2" or so and graft on the same (but slightly longer) section cut from the Revell hood. Before doing this, make sure that the two channels in the AMT hood line up perfectly with the cowl vents in the Revell body, or all your work will be for nothing (i.e., it'll look terrible).

I got rid of my first-version kit, but I remember the hood being awfully thin in the center, to clear the air cleaner. The thinness of the hood makes it look (to me) like they had to go to great lengths to get it to fit over the engine, leading me to believe that there's more wrong with this kit than just the slanted taillight panel or the incorrect grille shape. I offed the kit at an automotive flea market earlier this year...problem solved.

The real ones had the same problem with the big-blocks. That's how that lump came to BE in the SS hood. It had to be. This also confirms that the first-gen Camaro was designed from the start to take the BBC, even though it wasn't released until mid-year. But the SS hood was bulged from day one, even on the 350 cars.
