High octane Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I didn't wait for Revell's '57 Ford gasser as I finished mine for the Milwaukee NNL yesterday. It has a 427 cu.in. engine from the Thunderbolt kit, as well as a reworked front suspension from the '41 Willys kit. Back-in-the-day like in the mid-60's the gasser class was called Gas Coupes & Sedans. No wagons, no convertibles, no sports cars.
High octane Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 A couple more photos as it seems as I have triplicates of the first photo
carrucha Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Cool gasser. You definitely nailed the gasser look.
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Looks great. I love '57 Fords, love gassers, this is the best of both. Love that fast orange color too.
AZ Boy Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Very nicely done, Nick! Paint turned out beautifully.
futurattraction Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Super job, Nick! Fantastic paint...love the color. And the perfect stance to boot!
High octane Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks for the kudos guys as this build is more like a "shelf model" and far from a contest entry. I did enjoy building it, and with 10 gassers built on my shelves, I think I'm gonna build something else for awhile.
Snake45 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Back-in-the-day like in the mid-60's the gasser class was called Gas Coupes & Sedans. No wagons, no convertibles, no sports cars. I've seen legit Nomad wagon gassers, and of course there were loads of Corvette and early T-Bird gassers. On to the topic at hand: BEAUTIFUL model, you've really captured the look, feel, and mood of these things. Great paint, too. What's the colot?

Some of those Nomads ran in M/P or modified production, and the Corvettes ran in M/SP or modified sports classes. The color is Tamiya Metallic Orange and it would look great on a number of cars.
6bblbird Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Cool car! Very clean with great paint!Gotta take exception to your comment "Back-in-the-day like in the mid-60's the gasser class was called Gas Coupes & Sedans. No wagons, no convertibles, no sports cars"In the mid '60s wagons, and convertibles (with roll bars) were quite common as Gassers. Sedan deliveries, pickup trucks, El Caminos and Rancheros were all eligible to be Gassers. Sports cars ran in their own category called Modified Sports Car that had essentially the same rules as the Gas Coupes and Sedans. By 1968 the Sports Cars and open bodied Street Roadsters had been absorbed into the Gas classes.
High octane Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Thanks for the comments guys as I have a few more things to add this week to the model. First is the reworked tie-rod, and also I made a driveshaft hoop, I will be adding the outside mirror on the drivers side, and maybe (?) ladder bars also.
redrod99 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Outstanding model.I miss the old cars in this day of cookie cutter race cars.
High octane Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Three speed on the tree ??????????????? No, an automatic on the tree.
willieman Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 No, an automatic on the tree.Thought I saw a clutch pedal in there...Great build by the way !!!
High octane Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Thought I saw a clutch pedal in there...Great build by the way !!!Good eye you have, cause you did. However back-in-the-day when converting from a standard trans to an automatic, sometimes as in this case the pedals aren't always changed.
willieman Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Really likin' this build, any chance of a chassis pic ?
High octane Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Really likin' this build, any chance of a chassis pic ?Yes, like I said I have a couple parts to add to the chassis, and then I'll shoot a couple of photos and post them. Hang on!
