My youngest son wanted me to build something rusty so I sacrificed this mercury to the gods of oxidation. Actually, this was my first try at something like this, growing up in a body shop, and spending most of my adult life as a sailor, I usually try to get rid of rust. But I do like looking at the rusty builds posted here and I have a new appreciation for the effort that goes into them. I wanted it to look like something a guy found and has been working to bring it back to life so all the mechanicals and interior along with some other parts and chrome are new, he just needs to get around to doing some body work. I should do a wash on the grill but I don't want to knock off too much of the new.

In retrospect, I wish I had done the engine in black and added a freshly sanded bare metal patch somewhere, maybe the bottom of one of the quarter panels.

I really like this build; it has a ton of character to it!  Are the flames painted or did you use decals and expertly weather them, too?

They are the kit decals but I would call it closer to blindly fumbled about than expertly.

Super job on the patina.  It seriously looks like an old rod that was left out to pasture and some one dragged it in and gave it new life.
