afx Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) The Heller kit includes a nice two-blade fan. With the front suspension installed I can confirm I have good clearance at the front of the engine. Also fab'd an extended drive shaft. Edited May 12, 2016 by afx
afx Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Thanks Ron. I am bringing it to our show (NNL Mid-Atlantic) on Saturday to display on the Primer Table.
afx Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Final shape. The Heller kit headers fit quite well.
afx Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) Now here's a build idea. I wouldn't have to bother with fabricating a grille. Edited March 26, 2018 by afx
Xingu Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Now here's a build idea. I wouldn't have to bother with fabricating a grille. . Sounds like this Ak guy was a kit basher.
crazyrichard Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 that front looks spot on , awsome job on this !!!
afx Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 Drilled the bumperette mounting holes and added the turn signal fairings.
afx Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) These headers will not make it into the trans-kit as it would require casting the modified interior tub which would add costs. However here they are. Edited May 22, 2016 by afx
afx Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) Very nice. As I'm sure you know, the AC body borrowed several styling elements from the Carrozzeria Touring-designed Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta, most notably the sculpting around the grille. Apparently AC wasn't bashful about borrowing from Ferrari. Here is chassis number BEX289. BE signifies Bristol Engine, X signifies Export meaning left hand drive and 289 is the chassis number. Xingu Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Looking good. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Eric Macleod Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I am very impressed. This has all the markings of a masterpiece. Keep us posted.
afx Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 Thank you for the comments. I modified the kit radiator to better represent the unit used in the Ace. Also added a scratch built oil cooler. The kit part is shown for comparison.
afx Posted May 30, 2016 Author Posted May 30, 2016 Turned the body over to HRM for casting. While I wait for it to come back I will continue work on the chassis and engine. Started final assembly on the engine.
afx Posted May 30, 2016 Author Posted May 30, 2016 (edited) Thanks Shay. Here is the completed engine. Edited March 21, 2017 by afx
Xingu Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Fine detail that should show very well with this model.
mustang1989 Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) Your detail is all that and a bag of party mix JC! That engine looks fantastic! Edited May 31, 2016 by mustang1989
afx Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys for the comments. Here is the header side of the engine with the chassis painted. Edited March 21, 2017 by afx
afx Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Picked up some new reference material. This book includes the paint and interior colors of every Ace built. Also has more race history than anything I had in my library.
