afx Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 Lookin' good J.C.Thanks Ron. You'll get to see it first hand at the next club meeting.
Xingu Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 You'll get to see it first hand at the next club meeting. Thanks for the reminder. I must remember to to keep the 18th open.
MrObsessive Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 JC that's lookin' great! Any chance that Harold is going to cast the engine with this too? For some reason, I like this a tad better than the small block V8 Cobras that followed. Something about the "purity" of its roots that appeals to me. Depending on how things go work wise, I may try to make it down on the 18th as I'd like to see this in 3D. I'm doing up to 12 hour days now and a few hours on Saturdays. If it's been a rough week, I want nothing more than to go absolutely nowhere for the weekend.
afx Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 Thanks for the reminder. I must remember to to keep the 18th open.Hope to see you there Mike.

Harold is also working on the bumeprettes and grille with the intention of including them as well.

MrObsessive Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 JC, has Harold given any idea how much the transkit might cost? I'm so tempted to grab one of these! That engine looks terrific nestled in its bay!

He hasn't mentioned potential kit cost to me Bill. I just gave him another BMW 328 kit to use for the engine.
afx Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 (edited) Most of the race cars had side vents. Yea that's right the idea of the side vents for the Cobra also came from the Ace. I modified the resin body to add vents which are resin copies of those from the Sunny/Academy 427 Cobra kit. Edited March 21, 2017 by afx
Randy D Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 This one is outstanding JC !!! The engine looks terrific along with the body mods. Randy
Twokidsnosleep Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Your pics struck me as how incredibly clean your build is....engine compartment and side view, so crisp and neatJust a pristine example of modellingVery impressed
afx Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 Thanks Randy. Thank you too Scott. I put a lot of effort into making sure everything fits properly. I like to drill and pin parts, helps makes final assembly much cleaner. I spent about an hour creating the side vent openings. In the picture the side vents are only friction fit. Pins are holding the side pipe in place.
John Goschke Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Beautiful, inspiring work on this project! Thanks for sharing it and documenting so thoroughly.
afx Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 Thanks Dann and John. Now I just have the settle on which car I want to build.
afx Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 No progress on the build but found a video you all might enjoy.
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Love it, cool car cool videoHave watched Pure Sang vids from Jay Leno (the Alfa Romeo is awesome) and only figured who the owner of the little AC was at the very end....duh on me
tedd60 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Thanks AFX, this was a good thread AND vid over my morning coffee. (BTW ... for all my fellow 1/18 scale modders - This is a car that can be done in 1/18th scale ... the donors are available at very reasonable prices.)LOVE the Coupe! When I think about companies that build roadsters ... and then built them into GT Coupes, I can hardly think of one that looked bad with a roof on it. Jag, MG's A & B, Alpine, Triumph ... even the Volvo P1800 looked GREAT when they put an "ES" on the back. Edited March 15, 2017 by tedd60
f1ford48 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 AMAZING BUILD-THE Bristol engine is superb in detail and colors and that was a great idea using a block of styrene to carve out and extend the grill area. it all looks super so far. my dad had a 58 Aceca back in the early 60s. believe it or not he traded 1 year old VW convertible for it. it is the very first car I remember riding in - I wish we had it now-especially when I heard the value on the video car. his car was black also, same interior. however it had the windshield with the round lower corners [better looking-I think] some day I would like to build a large scale model of it. at least 1/16 scale.
afx Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 (edited) The Aceca is a beautiful car Frank too bad your dad didn't hang onto it. Would love to have a model subject of it. Edited March 20, 2017 by afx
MAGIC MUFFLER Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 (edited) I had this original AC ACE in my shop recently to repaint the r/f fender. I also removed the pass dr to repair it and detailed prepped the whole car. I have always like the little ACE since I was a boy. Your build is turning out beautifully! Edited March 20, 2017 by MAGIC MUFFLER
afx Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 That's a beautiful Ace Billy. Wish I could find some nice narrow wire wheels and tires for this build. I like the wheels/tires I am using but they are really too wide for the period.
Randy D Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Your Ace looks great JC !!!!! Was at the Shelby Museum on Sat. and was thinking Darn, JC has built most of these Their Ace, the 1957 A.C. Ace-Bristol Racer BEX254 was being moved and I could not grab pics, hopefully next time. Stock photo from their web site... Randy
afx Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 (edited) A friend made a beautiful brass master of the grille which HRM was able to resin cast, so this project should be back on the workbench soon! Edited March 15, 2018 by afx
