afx Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 I'll show it to HRM and see what he thinks. Reproducing the grille would be challenging. My build plan was a race car with the insert and just a screen behind.
Rider Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 The front end is looking good. The grill would most definately be a challenge to get right and not look hobbled together.
Phildaupho Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Great project. I really like the way the exhaust headers look on this AC owned by an acquaintance.

afx Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) Great project. I really like the way the exhaust headers look on this AC owned by an acquaintance. Thanks Phil. That looks like a beautiful car. That is an AC engine. The Bristol engine headers are nice too. Edited May 7, 2016 by afx
Greg Myers Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Steve, what is a home photo-etch kit? Google is YOUR friend, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjgH250bUrA
RancheroSteve Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) Steve, what is a home photo-etch kit? I've been using the one from Micro-Mark for a few years with pretty good results. It's a bit of an initial investment, but with some practice you can make stuff you couldn't get otherwise. http://www.micromark.com/micro-mark-pro-etch-photo-etch-system,8346.html I made the grille for this Falcon: As well as various mechanical parts: There are a few threads on this board discussing making "home made" p/e parts. I believe this is the one I'm thinking of: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/51578-micromarks-photo-etch-kit/?page=1 Edited May 5, 2016 by RancheroSteve
afx Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Thanks Steve. I have a daughter starting college in the fall so "investing" in model building systems/equipment isn't really in the cards.
RancheroSteve Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Thanks Steve. I have a daughter starting college in the fall so "investing" in model building systems/equipment isn't really in the cards. Understood! Keep up the fine work - I'm really enjoying following your projects.
afx Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Well you guys are in luck. I showed the Ace to HRM and he is interested in casting it. I still have quite a bit to do before I am able to turn it over to him though.
afx Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) Had to modify some cross members and fab new motor mounts. Edited May 8, 2016 by afx
afx Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 First primer coat didn't reveal anything major, just some tweaking required.
sjordan2 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 It strikes me that the swoop from the nose down to the fenders should have more of a rounded curve than the sharp corners shown here.
afx Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys. Skip, yes the transition is a bit sharp. However I found a lot of variation in the nose shape. Being hand built cars this is understandable. Some with a sharp transition some more rounded. Edited May 8, 2016 by afx
afx Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 The Ace didn't have the spare tire recess in the "boot" like the Cobra. After cutting it off the kit interior I installed flat stock both top and bottom. I also like to remove the section of interior tub above the door pockets, gives the inner door area more depth and is more representative of the 1:1.
