The upper one has intake and exhaust ports configured like a smallblock Chebby. Timing cover and placement of the distributor drive and thermostat holes on the intake manifold are little Chebby also. That long snorkel on the air filter looks like an early '90s Chebby truck. The trans is GM 4L80 or close relatives.

The other engine is missing the heads and other identifiers, but the ports on the exhaust manifolds are even like a Ford, a Chebby LS, or even a Mopar Hemi...though I don't believe the trans is Mopar.

Top one looks like AMT 454 SS pickup kit.

Bottom could be later model Corvette by the looks of the transmission.

No. A 454 is a big-block engine, and has evenly spaced exhaust ports.  Image result for chevy 454

Late model Corvettes have the trans in the rear.   Image result for corvette c5 drivetrain

With Brad's hint I looked it up and it is the SS454, both sprues are. The other block looks to be from a different kit. Thanks guys.

Whatever, but the exhaust manifolds (know what they are?) on the upper sprue are NOT 454 Chevy. Period.

Just sayin'. ;)

They have the siamesed centre ports like the 350, however they are part of that kit for some reason. I looked at a you tube review of the kit and both sprues are clearly visible..The short wide intake on the other sprue is what you see when you google the 90-91 truck images. In any case, it is going in my '65 pickup build.

That's true, but look at the cylinder heads...looks like they have four evenly spaced exhaust ports. The small-block exhaust manifolds are probably left overs on the tree from when Ertl did the 454SS conversion.

The parts came from the AMT Chevy C1500 Sportside. Sorry about the mixup. Only thing I forgot was that the 454SS truck plastic is black in the older kits I have.

As for the bottom pictures engine. I still think it might be later 1990's or so Corvette.

Just checked my unbuilt SS 454. The sprues are indeed from that kit ,, but the unattached engine/tranny halves are not.

BTW, back in the day, AMT just added the parts to the kit to make the engine look like a 454. Same old block/tranny, etc. as the small block in the other pickup kits. That's where the small block exhaust manifolds came from, they just weren't blocked off like some of the other small block specific parts.

Not that late in the 1990s. The Corvette C5 came out in 1997, and had the trans in the REAR of the vehicle, not bolted to the engine. Honest. I just put a real one in a '47 Cadillac. :D

You are correct Bill. I was thinking maybe the later C4 Corvettes. I have most of those kits and only a handful of the C5's. Totally forgot

about the transaxle design.

I wish one of my C4 models were open, but they are all sealed. I did however come across a 96 ? Z28 engine & trans that is similar to the 2nd pic

above, but still not the one he posted.

I checked the instruction for both the 1500 and the SS 454 and it looks to me like the unattached block as well as the small block manifolds are  for the 1500. Look at the locating notches for the heads and the ribs on the tranny.

While the other one is the 454.

I agree on the first.  The second looks like a Corvette engine (late C3?) given the partial air hose and the antilock brake box on the tree.  C4's would have had the second gen LT1 but still front tranny (Except ZR1 would have the special engine).

If you look closely at the instructions above, the detached engine is also from the C1500 kits, it is the standard small block for the non 454SS trucks. As for the antilock brake box and shorter air intake hose, those are also for the 454SS. Everything in the opening post's pics are for AMT's Chevy C1500 trucks, the manual transmission equipped engine is the 350 and the automatic equipped is the 454, and the small sprue in the second pic with the 350 are actually all parts for the 454SS version.

Right you are.  I went and dug up some old instructions.

Yup, you guys are right.

I have the sprue from the 1500 stepside right here in my hand and the engine/tranny is the same as the one in the pics.

I read in the review of the 454 kit in one of those model magazines that they just switched heads and associated parts to make the 455, guess not.

So I used the block on the sprue along with whatever 454 parts there were along with a few from the bin and a scratchbuilt coil and came up with this. I'd like to find a way to see how the alternator, idler and the compressor are "hung".
