72 Charger Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I look forward to seeing it too Nick its a very nice kit .
Canso65 Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 I picked one of these up a couple of months back as well.Looking forward to see what you do with it Nick.
Mopar - D Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Nick it a nice trailer what are your plans for it?
boyesreef Posted June 16, 2016 Author Posted June 16, 2016 i havent had a chance to open it yet, but i plan to use it as a display for my 1/24 cars. so far they are on a shelf in a fairly undignified manner, i hope this will bring some extra pop to the display. moreso than that, i hope my 50s Cadillacs fit!
Mopar - D Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Nice your cars in your picture should fit an the transporter with out any problem. I've loaded mine with 6 - 68. Big Mopars.
72 Charger Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 You will most likely need a longer shelf ....? If your planning on hooking up to that Pete its going to be long, Even longer if you have the ramps down.
boyesreef Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) update time my friends. i had some time to tinker with the kit, and i got a bit done. i am however not too satisfied with the kit. the kit is molded in a silver plastic, which is fine, but how/why ever they chose this plastic its kind of grainy and brittle. also where the parts are connected to the sprue is quite thick for example, there is 2 cross bars that connect the fenders together, the sprue connections are too big and i ended up breaking the fenders loose of one another before i got them free of the sprue. over all it looks like it will be a nice kit, but im only just so far. the frame and fenders are the same are the same grey as the truck, the ramps (other than the black) is the silver the kit is molded in. the uprights will be aluminum. modelercarl Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Nick, I have built 3 of these so far for displaying my built cars and they do build up into a nice kit. The fussiest part of the build is the mounting for the fenders, other than that the rest of the build is good.Carl Gowan
boyesreef Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 well Carl, as you can see, i used a cloths pin to hold the fender in place as the glue dried. and other suggestions? also i would love to see some pictures of your trailers for ideas for mine!
tbill Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 it's a nice kit, and takes up some room with a tractor hooked to it. here is one i did awhile back,
modelercarl Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 well Carl, as you can see, i used a cloths pin to hold the fender in place as the glue dried. and other suggestions? also i would love to see some pictures of your trailers for ideas for mine! Nick, Here are a couple of pictures of the rigs in their display cases that I made out of 1/4" acrylic stock. As you can see they are pretty long when hooked up to a tractor.....32" to 34" long.
gatorincebu Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Nice work thus far on the trailer. too bad about the fender. Where you using a sprue cutter? Be Well Gator
boyesreef Posted June 18, 2016 Author Posted June 18, 2016 Nice work thus far on the trailer. too bad about the fender. Where you using a sprue cutter? Be Well Gator ive got a little pair of wire cutters ive designated for the job from now on, but no, no sprue cutters.
boyesreef Posted June 18, 2016 Author Posted June 18, 2016 and finally it even came with six window decals! they are water transfers, but i just cut them out.
Petetrucker07 Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Looks great. I like what you've done here. If you don't mind, here's 2 pics of the one I've built, not finished yet though. One pic is next to a Moebius 53'er with an Italeri Volvo, the other pic is it outside, partially loaded.
boyesreef Posted June 18, 2016 Author Posted June 18, 2016 dont mind at all, i love seeing variations of the kits i build!
greger Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 haha im glad im not the only one hating the fenders. this kit is taking me forever as i simply jsut dont find it fun to build. im trying and its getting there but very slowly.
Petetrucker07 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I'm not real find of the fenders either. They don't look quite right. I had a hard time getting them to sit close to equal. On my next one, I'm gone try to scratch up or buy something different. Maybe they're too short, or just not what I think they should look like. Can't put my finger on what's soo wrong with them.
Petetrucker07 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) dont mind at all, i love seeing variations of the kits i build! It's kinda funny. I posted the same kits you have. My truck has a few changes and the trailer I switched the kits rims and tires for Moebius, which I guess is becoming my signature, since I do it to just about every one of my builds. Sam I Am Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Awesome thread ! I have both trailers touched on and am benefiting from all the pics.
extmcdriver Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Nice work. You have inspired me to give this type of trailer a try.
kilrathy10 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) You got it to come out pretty good....Those long Cadillacs do take up a lot of room.....I know you had a hard time getting that one on the lower deck in there, for sure....Looks great.....If you ever have any more to put on that thing, I have a bit of a suggestion..... You can add extensions to both ends of it to make the upper deck a little longer......As I've done, here... Keep up the good work, Man.....You can never have enough car haulers..... boyesreef Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 i really like the ideas of at least a lip to keep the end cars in place!
