cobraman Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 (edited) Possibly the worst Daytona kit ever made. I had 2 in my unbuilt Cobra collection so I thought I would play around with. It is a 1/40 scale kit made by Kawai. Total of 11 pieces. No interior or engine. Plans call for puttying the body seem and finding some wheels and tires from a die cast car. Not too much to work with but I will try my best to do something with it. Edited June 18, 2016 by cobraman spelling error
cobraman Posted June 19, 2016 Author Posted June 19, 2016 Funny thing, I was thinking I has seen this body before. I went through my collection and found this. Exact same body. I guess it was also sold as a toy with a friction motor.
cobraman Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 I was able to finally get back to work on this little kit. I glued the 2 piece body together and slung some putty on the seam. Sanded and primed and then sanded again and put on some more putty where it still was rough. I cut out the molded in chassis so I had room to get the windows in. I got the little Cuda for the wheels. They are oversize on the die cast but I think will look ok on the Cobra. I am modifying the chassis from the Cuda to use with the cobra.
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Like it. Wheels look good on it. Are you going to do an interior for it?
cobraman Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Thanks Bob. I had thought about modifying the Cuda interior but the Cobra does not have clear windows. They are black plastic. Maybe I could make some windows from some clear stock. I will have to think about that.
superbike-shaun Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 hi Ray! wow now i think ive seen just about every kind of scale model cobra there ever was?????????? have fun !
cobraman Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Thanks Shaun. When I started collecting Cobra's about 1999 I had no idea how many different ones there were. When I discovered ebay a whole new world of Cobra's opened up to me. I still get surprised when I find one I don't have. There are many high end ones I don't have and most likely never will.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Neat little model. You find some really unusual Cobras. Already a big improvement in how it comes off at first glance with tires / wheels that fill the wheelwells better.
cobraman Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 Thank you guys. Always on the hunt for Cobra's I don't have but can afford.
cobraman Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Here is an update and mock up of this project. Wanted to make clear windows and also an interior but the only interior I had I just could not make work so I will just go with the blacked out windows. Painted Root Beer and then decals were added. Modified some headers to form some side pipes.
slusher Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Ray just found your project. Man, those wheels are a great find for your model. Looks good also..
Brizio Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 The kit probably is not the best, but you are doing a great job on it.
