cobraman Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 (edited) Another project underway. Just wanted to get some paint on it and now I will put it aside for awhile. Not green so I have to think of another name for it. : ) Edited July 8, 2016 by cobraman finished photos
darthsideous Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I have one of these. I'm looking forward to seeing your build up!
crazyjim Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Never seen one of those. Can't wait to it finished.
cobraman Posted June 21, 2016 Author Posted June 21, 2016 Might be a little while. I want to finish the helicopter I'm working on first.
cobraman Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Started working on this little kit again. Got the frame together and primed. Working on preparing the parts for primer.
cobraman Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Ya, I thought it would look better in a brighter color.
slusher Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Ya, I thought it would look better in a brighter color. I think you made a great color choice. Looking forward to seeing it together. Something I have never seen...
cobraman Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 Man this kit is a pain ! At least it is for me. I am having a lot of trouble with the pewter parts. I am using a Super type glue and it seems to take hold pretty good but when I pick it up to work on it "plink " a part falls off ! One part, the air cleaner has fallen off 3 times. Not sure what the heck I am doing wrong but I will manage to get it together one way or another. Three steps forward and two steps back. : )
Intmd8r Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I feel your pain-you just described to a "T" my experience with the Testors 'Cuda (reboxed Johan+pewter parts) over 10yrs ago. I gave up on it and threw it in the trash. You are a better man than I for keeping up with this build! Still would love to see it finished tho.Hang in there!Steve
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Ray you want to use the lest amount of super glue for pewter parts. Akso how fresh is your super glue?
cobraman Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 Bob, I just opened the glue I am using but have no idea how long it may have been in stock. I kind of pushed it to the side to regain my composure but will try and finish it this week.
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I looked at a site for the gaming figures and a common problem is parts not staying together. It seems you need to use as little as possible. Another question have you been using accelerator on it.
cobraman Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) Yes on the accelerator. Is that a no no ? Do the parts fall of faster ?? : ) Edited July 6, 2016 by cobraman forgot something
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 You might try just the glue I have heard that the accelerator can make the glue joint brittle. Might see if that helps.
LDO Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Are you polishing the pewter parts? I had one of these years ago and filed/sanded the air cleaner into a teardrop shape, then it polished up like chrome. Maybe drill a hole in the mating surface of both parts and jam a piece of plastic rod in there to help hold it in place.
cobraman Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 I did clean up the parts and enlarged some of the holes on the attachment points.
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Another thought did you clean the pewter parts to remove any residue frombthe molding process. If the parts have contamination that be another issue.
slusher Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Ray, get you a bottle of Loctite 495 super glue of ebay. I is the best i have used. Some super glues build up on parts and re-gluing just makes it worse. 495 is industrial strength and been using it for a long time... Edited July 8, 2016 by slusher
cobraman Posted July 8, 2016 Author Posted July 8, 2016 I was finally able to get this thing to stay together. : ) It was a chore. Built straight from the box. I had a tough time with the pewter parts but it's done.
crazyjim Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Very nice lines but thee doesn't seem to be much engine detail, Ray.
