MarkJ Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 Had to add a fan shroud to the radiator. As you can see I did not spray enough coats of the metallic silver and the red body bled through to the white primer. I will have to add a few more coats. the roof looks okay but the hood is really pink. Got the chassis and engine painted.
MarkJ Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 repainted body with a few more coats of siver metallic. Hoping to stop the bleeding. Sprayed the bumpers with duplicolor chrome paint.
MarkJ Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 There's a void in the dash for a bar to go through that this car did not have. So I had to fill it with styrene and putty. Got the seat done and set it in the chassis to see how it looks.
MarkJ Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Finally got rid of the bleed through so I can go ahead and paint the top coats. Did some more chassis work.

DrKerry Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Anytime Mark. I've always been a fan of Dale Sr.
wrecker388 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Gotta love Dale Earnhardt cars! Especially when they're done as nicely as yours. Great job!
MarkJ Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 Gotta love Dale Earnhardt cars! Especially when they're done as nicely as yours. Great job! Thanks Riley, for the kind words.
MarkJ Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 All I need is to black tape some of the chassis bars add a window net and add the tire assemblies and the chassis will be done. Oh yes, and reinstall the inside mirror.
MarkJ Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 The kit air cleaner would not allow the hood to shut so I found a picture of Darrell Waltrips 77 monte carlo and tried to make a copy of it and it did allow the hood to shut.
MarkJ Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 I found the loom and started on the window net. It was black for the Bristol race. Later pictures of it,during the season, it was white.
slusher Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I found the loom and started on the window net. It was black for the Bristol race. Later pictures of it,during the season, it was white. Great window net...
MarkJ Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) very ingenious idea for the net...Actually Michael its not my idea. Drew Hierwater had an article in S.A. showing how to make and use one. Window nets in the seventys and eightys looked more like rope then straps, which can be duplicated with masking tape, but this is the only way I can think of to make a rope type net. MarkJ Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Added the window net and added roll cage padding.
