Warren D Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Another build from the late 1970's this was an ERTL kit. I really liked the ERTL kits back in the day, looked up the current prices and wish I had bought a truckload of them back in the day....would be able to retire! The white paint hasn't held up well, it's yellowed. The ends on the bumper were cut off as many did that back in the day. I was told it let air flow across the front tires which made it more stable at highway speeds.
Andrew Howard Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I have one of these unbuilt, just know how rare they are now, nice build Jim.
gatorincebu Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Now that looks real good. @ Andrew. Those kits are as rare as hens teeth , and expensive if you can find them. Be Well Gator
disabled modeler Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Very cool build....I always liked the old Ertl Blueprint series kits they were great kits.
Warren D Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Thanks everyone! Yeh, I've seen prices of $200 for this one!
towman1271 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Held up real nice after all these years.. Looks brand new..You did a great job
Harry P. Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 So what if the white has yellowed? Just call it "Ivory."
GearUpJammer Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Great build Warren, love those old Binders!
Plastheniker Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Considering when the model was built a very nice result! IMO the Transtar was one of the most attractive truck kits ever. There should be a reissue soon.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Very nice build!! I like the short bumper!!
1959scudetto Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Hi Warren, the (now) ivory color suits this IH very well - looks like a typical fleet truck.I've read somewhere (don't remember where) that the bumpers have been cut back then to avoid tire damage by bent bumpers which could cut into the rubber when a truck hit a deere at highway speeds. I've got no idea if this might be a plausible explanation !? Maybe any of the truckers here on the forum knows more about this?

Also, with the bumper pushed against the tire (in the case of a collision with a deer or other animal) the steering was greatly hindered. I think that this might be why GMC used plastic bumper extensions to make a full bumper on some of their trucks. Some of the very small shorty bumpers were used to save on weight also.

kilrathy10 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Now, that is a very nice looking build.....Very nice.....Clean and Shiny......Love it.....
jacobus Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 like this onespecial the coe , love this transtarmust build one [ one of these day,s ] have stil a couple of kits in the stash ]there is not enough space on the tablejacobus
SpreadAxle Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I always liked this kit myself and yours built into a great looking fleet truck. Only thing missing is a wind fairing. As to the short bumper, another reason was weight savings. Every pound counts and the lighter the truck, the heavier the load it can carry. It didn't save much, but like I said, in the eyes of management at a fleet, every pound counts.
CheezyTrucker Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Very clean looking. Great job!The Transtar COE is definately in my top 10 favorite truck kits
