disconovaman Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Mpc kit that some one started paint was thin enough that I didn't have to strip it completely. I haven't made my mind up yet where the build is heading, but it'll come to me... https://images52.fot Edited November 2, 2016 by disconovaman
disconovaman Posted November 3, 2016 Author Posted November 3, 2016 Here's some progress, got some color and clear on just need to polish and detail next.

Monty Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Thanks guys the color is Testors one shot lacquer Icey blue... I think I'm headed in this direction... Kinda... If you mean implementing the IMSA flares etc, you'd be far better off starting with the AMT Ecklers Corvette kit, as it has the same flares and front nose with indented headlights as the 1:1 car depicted above. As for that...um...hood scoop, you'll have to make that yourself. Even if you did all the filing necessary to make those flares fit on that MPC body, do you intend to try and glue new body panels to a painted surface?
mustang1989 Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 This looks like something out of that movie "Corvette Summer". Good work so far.
disconovaman Posted November 4, 2016 Author Posted November 4, 2016 I have that Ecklers Vette but I don't really care for the flares. I guess that's why I've never built it yet. I can appreciate the styling because of the era though. I love Corvette Summer. What I'm planning is an over the top hood scoop big tires on vintage wheels. Maybe some white pinstripes. Side pipes and just some late 70's custom vibes. I was gonna use the original Blow Torch decals and flames to mimic the box art but now I want it more subtle just to keep it simple. I like the hood on both the Covette Summer movie car and this car I seen at Rod Run in Pigeon Forge Tn. this year. I'm gonna start with the L-88 hood and go from there.

geemoney Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 loved that whole IMSA fender era!for years a corvette with all the body panels sat in a used car lot / impound yard a few miles from my house.
Ron Hamilton Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I like those "Shark" Corvettes, as I have most of the kits to build in my stash. That Blue is a very nice color on that car.
disconovaman Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 I'm trying to decide on a hood for the vette but I'm not sure which one to go with. There is the SS 427 hood or the small block hood (both blue) or the stock hood or the engine sticking out hood. Any would work for the theme I'm building but I can't decide... Anyway, in an effort to save space for pictures I've combined the engine progress and wheels and tires I'm using for the build in this picture also, thanks for looking.
Snake45 Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Have you actually tried those Revell hoods in that MPC body?
disconovaman Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Have you actually tried those Revell hoods in that MPC body? Yes I have and aside from being a tad short they work perfectly. I plan on adding a windsheild cowl from an earlier vette to fill in the gap it will be foiled to match the trim on the window frame. Not accurate for a 74 I'm aware but this is a Phantom kit with the 427 anyway. I hadn't even planned on building the kit because I only bought it for the bare rally wheels and it was already missing the hood. But something just drew me to want a vette in my case. So I'm on a roll....
stavanzer Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 That is the correct choice for the hood. Looking great so far.
disconovaman Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Thanks alexis, I wanted an L88 hood for it and I had two from the 68 Covette Revell kits but I couldn't find them in all my junk so I finally gave up and the SS427 hood is the winner. I'll be adding white Baldwin Motion stripes to define the scoop. I'm seeing the build take on somewhat of a "What-if" theme had the 427 survived into the mid seventies.
disconovaman Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Quick update on the 74 SS 427 Stingray... got the hood painted and decaled. And some more detail on the engine..
disconovaman Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Somewhat mocked-up minus the side pipes and any other details. Factory Phantom would've been killer if the torque thrusts were a factory option. Along with factory rollbars and 5 point harness. And a 500 hp big block... Yeah man!
AC Norton Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 boy, do I like that.....a killer project, Anthony, as I myself have various MPC mid 70s Vette's to build.....very slick, love the concept....the Ace....
disconovaman Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Thanks AC, yeah I didn't know what to do with this kit as I'm not really interested in building vettes too much. I have a few project ideas such as the Con-air vette and the vette from the Covette song. Anyways, I sure some guys will be glad I didn't go with this as a build choice...lol! I'm at a loss for words here... Edited November 12, 2016 by disconovaman
