Toast Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Porsche 911s seem to be a theme around here lately! Sorry I didn't get a work in progress on this one. I wanted to try spraying Tamiya acrylics through my airbrush so picked up this, what I thought would be an easy quick kit. It is very simplified but the one piece body makes for some tough masking. Lots of patience is the key to getting this body to look good. Build box stock. Only trimmed down the exhaust so it would fit a little tighter up under the body and added some spare Porsche crest decals on the wheel center caps. Painted about a 50/50 mix of XF-63 German Grey and X-13 Metallic blue. Cleared with Tamiya TS-13. The color changes a good deal depending on the light. low light it's very dark. Sunlight brings out even more color but it was a little low in the sky by the time I was able to take the pictures. I'll try to get some more with a little better outdoor light another day. 1
vintagercr Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 That is pretty! There is no substitute for a Porsche....
935k3 Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Beautiful. I am surprised you could get away with spraying TS-13 over the acrylic paint. The color is great. How did you do the porsche letters on the tail light. I forgot about that. I will make a decal for that.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Wow. That IS nice. One of my own all-time-favorite cars, and your model certainly does it justice. Beautiful.
Toast Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 Thanks. Beautiful. I am surprised you could get away with spraying TS-13 over the acrylic paint. The color is great. How did you do the porsche letters on the tail light. I forgot about that. I will make a decal for that. Really? I tried the combination on a spoon first, even sprayed it heavy to make sure. They worked so I went with the same paint on the car. The Porsche script on the taillights was done with an extra fine point Sharpie. I just carefully traced the raised lettering on the back. Some 911s didn't have the script in black so it'd still be accurate to leave it red.
Scalper Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Wow very nice. Lives seeing really quality built Porsches. Paint colour is amazing. Nice work.
lghtngyello03 Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Super clean build. The paint work is top notch man, you nailed it.
iamsuperdan Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 That turned out beautifully. The outdoor shot truly does look like the real thing.
Dann Tier Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 These little Porsches are a bugger to mask and paint when doing replica stock!, you pulled it off, though -a beautiful representation of my person favorite of Porsche.
