Tom Kren Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 3.75 here in cleveland for reg someone said today it was 3.95 at some places I have to go get gas in a bit so i will know more!
Clay Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 $3.65 $3.75 $3.95 Good thing my van gets good gas mileage and my suv is in the bodyshop, and i am driving an 08 nissan altima with a smart key.
Nick F40 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Yes Clay, you can get good mileage out of an old car, it's just WOW not stepping on the throttle every 3 seconds and not burning rubber everywhere. That's why everybody has those ECO friendly BS cars, because everyone thinks an old V8 car gets 4 miles per gallon, but they have no idea, Hot Rod proved it, you can have a 400 HP engine that get's 25 miles per gallon, it's just not getting on the happy pedal all the time, heck, even if you pedal those 4 cylinders all the time, they don't get any better mileage, my friends Civic gets 11 when he beats it! People are ditsy and stupid and brain washed It's just one big political, mind washing, warping, hypnotizm thats going on. Edited May 14, 2008 by Nick F40
Joe Nunes Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Went up again in UP NORTH Michigan...$3.99 AND 9/10 per gallon regular.... and it's not even Memorial weekend yet!!
Nick F40 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 driving like we do. Too many people have poor driving habits. They seem to only have 2 positions for their foot ---on the accelerator or on the brakes. They wander around aimlessly, don't look far enough ahead of them to see that they are racing to a red light; passing everyone so they can be the 1st in line to race to the next light; fail to use the momentum the've built up for planned stops. The fuel efficiency ratings required by uncle sam are based on driving for optimum fuel effiency. But most drivers don't drive that way, so they probably pay 10-15% more than they need to for fuel and brakepads. And on the margin, that 10-15 % translates to a higher price we all pay at the pump due to the laws of supply and demand. In the meantime I'll just stick to my own proven ways of squeezing miles out of every drop and chuckle at all the idiots I see speeding pass me while I am coasting to the red light a block ahead. THANK YOU Mr. Rios
Modellpularn Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Over here in Sweden gas prices would be around 9 bucks a gallon! But we pay per liter. Lowest rating is 95 octane, we can get up to 99 octane, but that's Shell's V-Power, and it is the better gas. But it costs more, of course. Diesel is now more expensive than gas. 10 years ago diesel was about 40 cents cheaper per liter. The taxi I drive, a SAAB 9-5 wagon runs on ethanol, but can run on gasoline too. And ethanol costs about 5.50 per gallon. But it gets lousy mileage, it drinks almost one tank per shift. The diesel cars will run two shifts on one tank!
Joe Handley Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) I want to move where you guys live. I paid $3.94 this morning for regular unleaded. The station next door had regular fo $4.04.This is in Aurora, Il. Chicago is higher still ######, I'm working down that way tomorrow and wanted to top off the tank again It's cheaper in teh Aurora/Naperville area than it is here in West Chicago most of the time! Harry P. Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Here in Chicago's NW suburban area, in the last day or two prices are starting to go over $4 a gallon now. Most stations are still in the $3.95 range, but the $4.05 and $4.15s are starting to pop up everywhere like dandelions. $5 a gallon by Memorial Day? $7 by Fourth of July? At what point does our society just snap and say "enough already!!!"??? I wonder just how high the oil companies will raise the price. Is it realistic to believe that the average Joe is willing and able to pay $100+ to fill up his tank every week??? Didn't we once have a similar situation with the high price of tea? I seem to remember the colonists not being too happy about the price King George was charging.

I'm all for a revolution, as long as I don't have to drive too far and maybe combine it with a hobby crawl. Bob
Harold Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) At what point does our society just snap and say "enough already!!!"??? I think our society doesn't even give a rat's #@^ about what's going on in the world, let alone their own back yard. I work as an election inspector for the city, and the precinct I work (40) shares a school gymnasium with precinct 39. Last week there was an election for the school board and for the First Ward Councilman. Precinct 39 had three voters all day and we had the grand sum of zero. Yup, zero freakin' people in our precinct were unable to drag their fat butts away from the TV and vote on their kid's futures. They have no idea who, for instance, our State Senators are (Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow) but can tell you chapter and verse what the hell happened on "Dancing With The Has-Been Stars". Is it any wonder, then, that they couldn't see the geopolitical trends over the last five years (Irag, Hugo Chavez) and are short sighted to the point that they buy these glorified parade floats that get 15 gallons to the mile? As I've said before- the next time I see some jackass on the news whining about the price of gas while he's filling up his Hummscaldeplorer, I'm going to find out where he lives and smack him upside his head. These idiots are the ones I hold responsible for a major portion of these usurous gas prices. Edited May 14, 2008 by Harold
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) The ironic thing is, the very people who drive the biggest gas guzzlers, the huge, expen$ive SUVs, are the very same people who are least affected by the cost of gas. After all, if you can afford a giganto-car for $60,000, you can probably afford the gas at $5 a gallon too. And you probably couldn't care less about conservation... after all, you drive a freakin' Hummer!!! The rest of the world is beneath you... It's the average guy, the guy driving to work in his '92 Cutlass, that's being hurt the most by the price of gas. And by the way, Harold...your comment on the "Dancing With the Stars" mentality of Americans...how true! How sad, but how true. Edited May 14, 2008 by harrypri
Harold Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 But a lot of these people lease these things and use them for status symbols- it's nothing to see one of these things parked in front of a run-down dump in the bad part of town. Kinda like automotive costume jewelry.

How sad, but how true. but odds are that 92 Cutlass is paid off. and the insurance is'nt that high on it. the person that is really hurting are middle class family's with 3 or more kids, driving the family Minivan 300 miles a week to baseball. and soccer, band...etc.... having to keep those kids fed and healthy.

Paid $3.93 a gallon for regular at the Mobil on Rt.59 and Deihl Road last night, half tank just over 10 gallons) in the Jeep cost me $40.01 As I was filling the tank I ws talking to the guy on the other side of the pump and he told me that he ended up parking his BMW for what appeared to be a Corolla because of fuel costs and couldn't remember when he drove the Bimmer last! Fortunetly my Cherokee is paid off and the insurance is less than $600 a year now and my only other bills are my credit card and cell phone!
evilone Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 my gas prices SUCK how can people drive H2 hummers, escalades, trucks with HUGE rims and even HUGER lifts OH MY GOD i watched a guy get surprised when he filled up his desel f 350 for $160 if that was me i would have pushed it home and let it sit in my front yard ###### just think im gitting a 89 caddy hearse and that will be my daily driver well nice knowing you guys i have to go rob a bank to cover for that boats gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jello Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 With the way people drive these days yaking on the cell phones & do whatever other crazy things some drivers do beside actually driving the car, theres no way I will switch to using a smaller vehicle! You would have to be crazy to drive some itty bitty POS made out of recycle Coke cans and some fool in a huge Caddy with clown wheels watching a movie runs into you! If I can't afford to drive, then I will just got get a dang mule & wagon! LOL..At the rate things are going downhill in this country, wouldn't surprise me one bit if we ended up back where we started, being a caveman!...and I believe I could get used to that if the cave has a AC & fridge in it! ~ Jeff
The Modeling Hermit Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I'm sure that someplace way back in history there was some woman that said to her husband, "Grog that wheel will lead to nothing but trouble!"
Guest zebm1 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Hmmmmm, ever wonder why your vehicles don't seem to run very well on an ethanol-blended fuel? What is the basic liquid that is used as the medium of fluidity? WATER! I use SUNOCO gasoline.....running 3.60/gal in Pinellas County, FL. My Dakota runs like ###### on blended gas.....must be tha sawed off 318...re 3.9 litre V-6 Magnum I drive.
Fuel Coupe Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 filled up my wifes honda accord yesterday for $3.62 a Gal. I usually let my Diesel get to 1/2 a tank before a fill up. I can go about 2 weeks on a 1/2 tank in it. Last 1/2 fill cost me $68 .....
RodBurNeR Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 $3.66 yesterday and if they get up to $4.00 and more i am going to forward my truck payment to them. it's hard enough to pay $300.00 a month plus insurance, let alone $85 to fill my tank every two weeks when i don't even put 10,000 miles on my truck a year! this is such a sore subject with me, i am very not-happy about gas prices! my wife and i don't hardly go anywhere because it costs so much. i can seriously see the oil industry finally figuring out just how far they can push us! they need a wake up call, GAS WARS all over again!
old low&slo Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 now 3.75 a gallon in maryland. as of 5/17 it has gone up 20cents in 2 weeks. I hear rumors of 6 bucks by july 4th. bush went to saudi arabia this week and asked them to boost production to ease gas prices and they said NO. we ( my family) can get by but as the prices rise we are giving up extras 1 by 1 and I find my speed in the car is slowing down to try and conserve. I feel like there is going to be a breaking point coming and soon and I have a feeling it is not going to be pretty.
Fuel Coupe Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 We made a small day trip yesterday to a few hobby shops in Houston and Let me tell you. it can be seen. the roads were empty. very little traffic in Houston (compared to last year) and the roads were void of the usual bumper to bumper big rigs on the 10... erie...
MrObsessive Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) Just filled up again this morning after coming from a trip to the MAMA meeting in Maryland yesterday....................it was $3.71 a gallon for regular-----that's up 6¢ from a week ago. The tank was just over half empty and it still cost me $26 to fill up! Hopefully that will last me a couple weeks. Don't like to be a downer or an alarmist...............but guys, it's only gonna get worse from here....... Edited May 18, 2008 by MrObsessive
Rob Hall Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 $3.75 here in N. central Phoenix. Had my first $70 fill up yesterday. Fun fun.
