gasman Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) I was in my local Hobby shop to get a Revell R8, and I was shocked at the price. $18.50. the 68 Charger was $19.00. and I looked around too see all the Revell reissues where $17.00+. did Revell raise the price of there kits all of a sudden. I'm guessing with gas futures trading at $124 a barrel. and the fact that petroleum is the main ingredient in plastic is the reason for the price hike Edited May 8, 2008 by gasman
FactoryStock54 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 The petroleum used in the plastic represents only a tiny percentage of kit cost; but the mfg-er and its sub-contractors still need energy to run the factory, print the instructions, transport the product. . .it all adds up! Times like these, I'm very glad I had the good sense to build up a stash!
oldcars Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 My stash is good until the 24th century at least. Always wondered why I tryed hard to hold on to them. Now I see . Maybe we should all go buy some spare glue and paint before it goes sky high too.
Zoom Zoom Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I just looked up prices; yes, there was an increase across the board. Glad my Charger and R8 were pre-increase prices. Seems prices are up anywhere from 50 cents to almost $2 per kit.
Rob Hall Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Interesting...my usual online vendor has the Charger in stock for $12.95 and the R8 for $12.10, same prices I paid when I preordered them. I checked my LHS last weekend, and they didn't even have the new Mach 1 yet (their stock seemed a bit behind).

Sounds like mine, I've got to go to the storage area I keep them in and bring them home to sell in a garage sale next weekend.
Joe Nunes Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 With the price of Revell kits today I only buy them at Michael's with their 40% or 50% off coupons.
novadose71 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I doesn't bother me paying $20 bucks if it get's us kits like the Mustang,Charger, and upcoming Nova. It's the 5x reissued kits I won't pay that much for. Everything has gone up in price, kit makers are just following suit.
Jello Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Iam surprised the prices are not higher! In hobby shops, the prices are closer to the 20 dollar mark and with no Wally Worlds selling model kits anymore, its even higher. Someone did some 'planning' in this... ModelRoundup has great prices and hopefully stay that way. In the future, companies like Revell had better start including more extras in the kits otherwise, nobody will pay 20 bucks for a old reissue kit anymore. Revell has done a great job with the latest kits like the '55 Chevy, '58 Impala, '70 Mustang, Motion Chevelle( half of this kit is all new tooling!) and paying more seems worth it so far but how far will this go? Theres talk of gas going up to 7-8 bucks by winter time..... ~ Jeff
