landman Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Mine will be a single drive R190 with a tank body. The inspiration was this one recently purchased by a friend. It was the airport fuel tender and only has 900 miles or so on it. He sold the tank and will restore it to tow a trailer for his many collectibles. The current project will look a bit like this: The body is a Spaulding resin. The chassis will be from a Ford C600. The engine will be ascratchbuilt Blue Diamond and the tank will be scratchbilt as well. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
cowboy rich Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I like the plan, did you post the 1:1 pic before?
landman Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 I like the plan, did you post the 1:1 pic before?Yes, I think it was in What did you see today?
Mopar - D Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Pat this is going to be another interesting build.
landman Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Here we go. Assembled the frame and worked at figuring out the location of the front axle in order to get the right wheelbase. Made the steering poseable using a technique learned here. I wish my memory allowed me to credit the teacher. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
gatorincebu Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I was wondering when you were get around to doing this truck Great project idea. Be Well Gator
landman Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Once the location for the front suspension was set I started looking at the location of the engine. Removed the front crossmember and put the front engine support in its place. Installed the transmission support in the same location but inside the frame rails instead of under them. Added a gusset from the parts bin to support the rear of the transmission. Engine fits well with room enough for the rad in front and with everything under the hood area. Hope I won't get disqualified for using an already built engine. The newly freed front crossmember could make a neat cab support. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
jacobus Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 one of my favorit , like this kind of truck, swil see how its go,sjacobus
landman Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) There is no interior with this cab. I decided to use the interior of the Louisville in the race car hauler kit. Sectioned, hacked and sliced until it looks like it will fit. Looking back, I might have been better to scratcbuild one. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
Canso65 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 This is a great choice for a project Pat.Your making amazing progress already!I can't wait to see more. Rob

kilrathy10 Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Whoa !!!! This is going to be awesome......What a great start you have, also.....Very interesting.....
Mopar - D Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Pat your scratch building details on this one are going to make this one shine when it's all done.
landman Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) More work on the interior. Mostly at the upper front. trying to make it conform to the underside of the resin cab. Gathered stuff for the instrument panel. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
landman Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) Back on the chassis. I decided to change the car transmission which was on the engine to the one from the C600. Luckily I won't have to modify the transmission support. Is it an automatic or a 5 speed? Doesn't say on the C600 box. Question: does a tanker have frame mounted fuel tanks with an access panel or is there a compartment for running fuel in the tank body? Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
dsldriver Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 The transmission you're using there is an automatic. A good transmission for this build would be the one from the AMT Kenworth T-600. It used a Spicer 5 speed.I'll be watching this one, you are doing great so far!
kilrathy10 Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 This is very cool....Great work on the cab interior.....This is going to be solid build.....

landman Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 (edited) I found this motivational picture:http://media.fotki.com/1_p,wqkbwfrbtkfsdwqxfffkttkrsdb,vi/fqwbfrtfxsbqgdbfkrxbsfsskdbq/1/117425/4901611/IHRline3-vi.jpgThank you. I'm still wondering whether to put the fuel tans under the tank body or as steps to the cab, like the diecast in my fist post. Edited January 10, 2017 by landman
steel_tiger1 Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Your truck most likely had a single fuel tank on the drivers side. Step tank combo. Single tanks were very common on those old trucks. They were local delivery only so didn't need much fuel.
