DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 (edited) Thank you. I'm still wondering whether to put the fuel tans under the tank body or as steps to the cab, like the diecast in my fist post. It's your build, so whatever you decide will come out great I'm sure. Since it's a gas burner my vote is a single tank under the tank body with an access door. This tank style seemed to be common among gas burners. Chariots of Fire Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Awesome! What great building info that is! I just might save that for a future build I have in mind! Also an R190!
landman Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) I have reached a satisfactory fit for the interior. Now that I know where everything falls, I can start on the glass. The potato chip container is almost the same size as the scale end on photograph. It is a wee bit more squashed in the photo. that could be achieved with glued posts inside to bring it out a bit. landman Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) I had started working on a tank using shapes from packaging plastic. Pretty nasty stuff to work with. So I started to scrounge and found some baby crib spindles that had the right shape and some sprue which could be turned into tank supports. Started with those materials. I am up to making a bead around the ends. Also adjusted the driveshaft to make up for the forward positioning of the engine. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
landman Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) A bit more work on the tank. Started on the running boards. The battery boxes will be in the valances. I need to find who makes the toolbox latches. AITM? Initially, I was going to use diamond plate but I thought ribs would be more appropriate for the vintage. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
Tesla Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Nice work...you're cruising right along! Is this the type of latch you're referring to? If so, Plaskit sells these...
Mopar - D Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Nice progress Pat your custom built parts look great.

Chariots of Fire Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 That's looking right fine! How would the tank from the AC Mack or Opel Blitz fit? You wouldn't have to worry about the shape with either of them. Minor adjustments would take care of dated things like the fill covers on top.

You are right, the Mack tank could likely do, however I'm not sure if I want to buy it just for the tank.
purepmd Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Really liking the is unusual subject. Workmanship and imagination combined perfectly.
landman Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) A little bit here, a little bit there.... Set up the hood for hinges. Made some window patterns Painted the frame. It is glossy because it is still wet. Will be low gloss. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
kilrathy10 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Man, this is looking good....I'm really digging how that tank came out....Very nice.....And the hinged hood is going to be nice, as well....

DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I was wondering if you were going to open the hood. Looking good!
landman Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 I was wondering if you were going to open the hood. Looking good!I figured I might as well, didn't scratch build the Blue Diamond to hide it. Actually the biggest part of the debate was whether to hinge it or simply as a lift off.
landman Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) More work on the dash. A bit crude, but it'll have to do. The gauge faces should be black but those fit better. Compromise, compromise.... The steering column is an example of my compulsion to recycle. the shaft is the core of a Q-tip, the base is a bit of telephone wire casing and the shaft of the flasher arm is one of the pins I used in the dash buttons. Chassis is nearing completion. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
gatorincebu Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Pat, Nice work on the interior . And as far as the engine is concerned. I doubt anyone will complain! You certainly aren't wasting any time on this build. Be Well Gator Be Well Gator
landman Posted January 17, 2017 Author Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Added the radiator and a hose. Added an air line to the tanks. I won't bother with lines to the wheels now. Will attempt that on a tractor someday. Added shock absorbers. Edited December 18, 2020 by landman
