Dann Tier Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 I'd definitely stick with the first set of wheels and tyres! -seems EVERYONE uses the other ones, especially on a build like this. I've learned that you like to do things different, and those black wheels with all that MEAT, is different AND mean looking!! -keep up the great work!!!
espo Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Either wheel and tire set up would work. I like the Steelies, but the problem may be fitting them under the fenders, You may have to tub the rears and narrow the front axel some. At this point you wouldn't want to mess with the paint work on the fenders. I really like how this has turned out. A light mist coat of flat clear paint might knock down the shine on the top if that's what is bothering you on that.
crazyrichard Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 thnx guys ! and we will see what i can do when i start on the chassis and suspension , easy to cut the tubs still and make some wider ones on the interiour tb Either wheel and tire set up would work. Ben269 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I have never seen that kit before, who makes it? That wood looks great, by the way.
crazyrichard Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) its the revell 48 woody ....its the german version manual says printed in germany .. but i have seen a few versions of the kit online i believe its not a rare thing this kit slow progress on the interiour , went with a white steering wheel , actually just sanded the styrene and put some gloss clear over it with a brush by hand .. super close up , the gauges and glass where fitted with micro crystal clear and its still not turning clear .. takes time , the horn ring got a wash so the ford logo pops ...chrome on the dash needs a cleaning all fingerprint stains over it the trunk area so to speak will get some carpet , not really going for the exact how it should look here ...and still thinking what to do with the bench seats .. they need something Edited January 15, 2017 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 thnx steve ! after a good coat of hairspray i painted the tins blue with enamel paint , all just handbrushed i could not be bothered taping it since it would become patina , after most blue was off i went in with a brush and gave it more patina .. a bit uniform in color ..and gave it all a black wash ..i can add soem stuff if needed i thought i'd leave it alone for a while and sit back and look the roof was too clean ... so for now i gave it a wash with light grey wash ..i can try to add upholstery of some sort later , i did not build the chassis / suspension and i did not dryfit anything ! usually i always first buidl it all , dryfit and then think about paint , this time i was just having fun with the body .. but ... those fat rear wheels fit in the rear wells and tubs .. so no cutting needed lol i love the whole look downtoned and a bit sinister , take note its ment as a fake patina rod kind of ride , so its all a bit exaggerated ! maybe hen its really done the patina i will put over some gloss clear .. not sure yet
geetee66 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Man, that is SO cool.Steel wheels look ace and your timber and patina are spot-on.Really nice job on the dash and interior, too!
geewhiz Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Most definitely a great gluebomb save!!! I love where you taken this so far!!!????????
espo Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I like how the patina painting turned out. I would resist painting it with a gloss clear. This is presently a popular build style now with 1:1 builders, but the builders tend to cover everything with an unnatural looking gloss clear coat. If a car body is actually oxidized it is going to be a very flat surface. I would go for maybe a semi-clear coat followed by a flat clear sprayed from an arms length away. This would give the finish some highlights and leave a little bit of texture to the actual finish. Glad to hear that the big tires cleared the rear fenders. I intend to build this same model soon and I have a hard time building anything with skinny tires.

Jantrix Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Man, that looks great. Very authentic. I like it!
Austin NJ Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I wouldn't do the panels but that's just me. I think what you got is perfect for that patina look and you nailed the colors.
crazyrichard Posted January 17, 2017 Author Posted January 17, 2017 thnx ! well making rear glass should be rather easy its all straight and square
crazyrichard Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 Compromise , in order to give the roof a more realistic feel i apolsthered it with medical cloth tape .. The tape is too narrow so i made a rased line in the middle and on the pic it shows white cloth tape lines , those on the sides are extra added cloth tape lines to give a seam look .. Now i know its not whats on irl , but i like it ... and since its patina-ed and will have lowered suspension and what not i think i can get away with this material i just love the look and feel and it really adds something imo
Intmd8r Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Looks perfect to me...I'm going with a similar stance on my latest Woody build, so I say Rock It! Who cares if it's impractical in the real world, its just a model
Lunajammer Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 In a word...WOW. Excellent craftsmanship. I wish I had a set of those wheels.
crazyrichard Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) thnx guys ! Looks perfect to me... I'm going with a similar stance on my latest Woody build, so I say Rock It! Who cares if it's impractical in the real world, its just a model i still have to build the chassis and suspension , but yes it will sit as low as possible , i do want to build the undercarridge in a way that it would be drivable , meaning it needs clearance In a word...WOW. Excellent craftsmanship. I wish I had a set of those wheels. thnx ! i made them from mazda steelies with rings from different set of wheels .. often very easy to make nice wide steelies or rims ...just make or use a wider ring and glue it on top of the rim ... in this case i made the set staggered , wider in the rear then in the front on most of my build the rims are custom made just because i want something different and unique here is a charger i build , same concept .. used stock chrome steelies (not from the charger kit) and made uber wide rear rims Edited January 18, 2017 by crazyrichard
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Very imoressive. Love the weathering. Think the bench seats for the interior were the right choice. As always itscfun to watch your projects come together. The medical tape on the top looks great. When you added the color over the rust did you thin the paint? What type of brush. Definitely interested in hearing more on the technique. Edited January 20, 2017 by bobthehobbyguy

Definitely interested in hearing more on the technique. thnx and no after some hairspray aplied with a hand brush i just slapped some revell enamel blue over it straight from the jar ...then with water removed most of the blue .. some eareas then reveiled the army sand colored base paint because i went to far through the layers .. tjhen just took the weird brownish enamel and tabbed it on with a hand brush.. in fact you could get this effect without the hairspray technique .. if you just paint a solid color like the blue i used .. when dry wet sand it slightly and go in with some rust colored paint with a hand brush ... and tab it on with the brush instead of making steaks ... i still need to go in with some black and other tones to give it more variation .. but i just came home from a weekend @ sea ..in a holliday park thing
crazyrichard Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 i did a leather effect on the bench seats , with darkbrown acrylic paint over the sand base paint , tapping it to create this effect . decided to do the trunk earea the same , maybe i will add a black carpet on the floor ...interiour will be non weathered the kit provided weird turn signals for the front , molded chrome ones with no lenses ... now i would have cleaned the raised casted things for the turn signals ...if i knew i would go this direction before ... the trurnsignals need to be white ....but with the molded chrome ..hmmm will never look realistic , over here in europe we have orange turn signals .. so this woody is imported to holland and got some orange lights.....lol used tamiya clear in 2 coats aplied with a wooden stick the trim under the door i painted chrome ....if i would leave the kit chrome as is the difference would be to big and i liked the toned down chrome on the trim under the doors... so i decided to paint all the kit chrome .. no bmf i taped the windows and sprayed chrome smalls like the hood ornament , badge , taillights etc the bumpers > front bumper the rear bumper got modified , its closed to the car with no gaps , closed the hole behind the indentation for the spare wheel since i wont add the spare on the back the grille i put the headlight houses and bezels in from behind and then put in the lenses .. looks way better and more mean then chrome bezels sticking out very carefully removed the tape before the paint hardened and succes !
espo Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I like the painted chrome look. I remember years ago when cars like this had pot metal for a lot of the trim and it usually didn't age well. The moldings would start pitting and get rusty and in some cases the chrome would even peal. Many would just use a little steel wool on the molding and repaint it with spray paint just like this.
