gatorincebu Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Cool color choice. I am going to have to try that paint combination. The weathering on the tires looks good. Be Well Gator

lghtngyello03 Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 Building away here on this kit to get it done by Saturday to take to the show. I got the carpet flocked in the interior, weathered the seats/dash/door panels and assembled. Also attempted another first at spraying some of the Tamiya weathering powder through my airbrush with some alcohol to make some mud splatter for weathering. The Rust weathering powder makes perfect red clay/mud such as what we have here in South Carolina. I had started to weather the fender flares/rocker guards, but I realized that everything needed to be on first...got excited, lol. The body is now on the chassis, I just have to finish up lights, bumpers, step bars, decals, paint and mount the Jerry can, then the body will be ready to weather as well, and I'll be able to call this one done....anyone have any tips for making a tow hook????
mikemodeler Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 That is looking killer! Great job with the weathering and nicely done , looks so lifelike.

Againmikewins Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Are you gonna be using the kit supplied light bar?
Dieselhead Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) For a hook, you could probably heat and bend some sprue into a hook-like shape, and then take a file and filler putty and shape it more finely into what you want. You could also do this to make D-ring shackles. Edited January 19, 2017 by Dieselhead
kilrathy10 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Think you got a winner here, Bud.....This sure to be a crowd pleaser.....I really like how it turned out....Makes me want to pull mine out and get on it.....
lghtngyello03 Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Are you gonna be using the kit supplied light bar?Yes I will, but the chrome is stripped off and it is airbrushed semi gloss black. For a hook, you could probably heat and bend some sprue into a hook-like shape, and then take a file and filler putty and shape it more finely into what you want. You could also do this to make D-ring shackles. Thanks Joe! I may give it a whirl..I have some styrene rod that I could try it on.Think you got a winner here, Bud.....This sure to be a crowd pleaser.....I really like how it turned out....Makes me want to pull mine out and get on it.....Thanks again JT!Nice work so farThanks Jonathan!
lghtngyello03 Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 This one is almost done. All I have to do is make a hook for the winch, and finish up painting/weathering my jerry can and mount it.
fscott201 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 Looks great! I'm working on the same model.
mikemodeler Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 I saw this in person today, even more impressive !

Nice work on the weathering! Thanks Dave. This was my first weathering job...I learned a lot, and hope I didn't over do it. No all I need is to get the sand/mud Tamiya weathering kit for my next 4x4 build.
lghtngyello03 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 This one is finished...but I haven't had time to actually take good pics to put it under glass. Maybe tonight I can snap some. The newest addition to the family has put a halt on things, lol. Only 8 weeks old.
lghtngyello03 Posted January 27, 2017 Author Posted January 27, 2017 Finally got this one pictured under glass now. Thanks everyone for following!
Foxer Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Your weathering looks just right, but a bit shiny in the photos. Maybe it's just the lighting, but it might need a bit of Dull Coat too.
lghtngyello03 Posted January 27, 2017 Author Posted January 27, 2017 I think its just the pics. Thanks man!
gatorincebu Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Beutiful job on this project ! i like it. Be Well Gator
