smellyfatdude Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) You know, the car that AMC never did build, but that Jo-han went ahead and kitted, anyway. I bought this from Wayne Farmer (moparfarmer) a couple of years ago. Had a clean break in the w/s frame, and bent vent window posts. I tried two different adhesives on the frame, and neither held. Finally got lucky last week, with some Lepages super glue. Once the break was repaired, I added new vent window posts, made from .040 x .040 styrene strips. The body is all done, save for the paint on the side marker lights. Engine pieces are painted, so that and the interior will be next. Edited March 13, 2017 by smellyfatdude
Sixties Sam Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Very good build of a rare subject. Nice to see some AMC's being saved! Good work!Sam
smellyfatdude Posted February 12, 2017 Author Posted February 12, 2017 Thanks, fellas. This will be a nice addition, to my AMC stash.
smellyfatdude Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 Nice stable of AMC's!!!!!! Thanks! Not too much done, but the engine is finished. It's the wrong engine, of course. But, I had no kit to rob for more accurate parts this time, like with my other Jo-han builds. Also finished the front and back ends, using a white jel roll pen on the headlight surrounds and some black ink for wash on the grille and back panel. I took advantage of an unusually nice day last week to give the interior a couple more coats of Tamiya Mica red. Got two weeks off coming up shortly. Finishing the interior will be my vacation goal.
Ron Hamilton Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 That is very nice. AMC should have done the car in one-to-one. I have a '67 Ambassador promo with a missing w/s frame in green, which I am going to scratchbuld the frame, polish the paint, and foil the car.
moparfarmer Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Glad to see you built it..When shipped there was a clean break at the top of the vent post on right side..Must have been some shipping damage with the bulged vent posts..You've done a very good job..I have a hardtop promo that needs a right rear light and chrome..Got a flywheel..Any interest? Could be had real cheap plus freight..Done a nice job on the rag..Very clean and well done..
smellyfatdude Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 I have a hardtop promo that needs a right rear light and chrome..Got a flywheel..Any interest? Unless you have a mint ' 70 Javelin kit in your stash you wish to part with . . . . I'm good, thanks!
MrObsessive Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Very nice SFD!! I could have sworn I've seen '68 Ambassador ragtops.............maybe those were '67's? They're about identical.......... Anyway, VERY nice in saving these old Johans! They're getting harder than hen's teeth to find in decent shape, and the prices reflect that! Doubt we'll ever see these kitted again so it's good to grab 'em when you can.
smellyfatdude Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Thanks for the feedback. I think it's safe to say that if AMC had built a 1:1 Ambassador ragtop, this is what they would have looked like. Doing the bodies on these old Jo-han kits is a real treat, with the details being so crisp. I really couldn't pass up the chance to build a convertible, even a non-esistant one!
