microwheel Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 (edited) That paint is flawless! I've never attempted a vinyl top, but I have seen your previous work on the Nova's and they always come out great!!!TimThanks TIm I did just get done getting the vinyl top done. The materiel from the model car garage is a little difficult to peel from its backing, but working slow and steady with it does get it off. Also it cuts about as easy as BMF when trimming off the excess, which is nice. On this one, I got one side of the center just a too wide on the overlap in the front driver side. But Im gonna live with it. I would have to rework a whole new center piece to fix it since if you try to peel it off and reuse it, it wont brandish all the new wrinkles out of it. I try to post more pics of it later, but I want to start working on some BMF work with it first. Edited March 6, 2017 by microwheel

I've seen a few painted that come out looking great, but it seems like the material is a more realistic way to go. Can't wait to see it finished... Spring Break in the mountains this week with my family, so no bench time for me until next week. Too many things going on at once right now.Tim

Spring Break in the mountains this week with my family, so no bench time for me until next week. Too many things going on at once right now.TimIt is finicky and yes self adhesive. Its more of a true vinyl and that's why I like using it. Have fun with the spring break stuff. I'll be working on the dart and a if I get time have to put a new set of shocks on the third axle of my ole class A motor-home. We got a lot to do to it this spring to get it ready for travel. That and we got to get the house ready to sell before hitting the road hopefully by july.
microwheel Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 Vinyl top and BMF work completed on the dart last night and this morning. I also drilled out the gas tank cap and replaced it with a scratched made one I made from evergreen sheet plastic I punched out with a hole punch and BMF covered it and added a small strip of plastic painted semi-gloss black to make the raised area. Then epoxied it into the hole I drilled out for it on the body. For now the body is ready to go other than the glass and photo-etched script I will add when I get closer to final assembly. The vinyl on the top will lay down even tighter over time. My hobby room is pretty warm, which is good for the top material as it sits it tends to suck down. That and I do re-brandish it with a cotton cloth every so often as well, especially the seam areas. More as I get it done. Thanks for looking
1972coronet Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 That Dart is looking sweet !! I really , really like that grafted 'Cuda hood ; fits perfectly .The fuel cap is spot on for the parts' store's replacement pieces ; a splendid addition !The 440 is gorgeous , of course .Keep up the great work !
microwheel Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 finally got started on the engine detail work late last night and most of today. Still got a lot more detail work on the engine to do, but it's coming along. I'll post pics of the progress so far, later this evening.
72 Charger Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 That's one hell of a glossy finish Jim . Its looking great
microwheel Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 (edited) ok as promised. Here is a few pics of the engine detail work that I have done as of tonight. I hope to get the majority of the engine detailing done by tomorrow or at least before the weekend. Sorry some if the pics may be slightly blurry, I didn't have my camera on it's tri-pod tonight. The small black line that is hanging near the distributor base is for the vacuum advance when I get that far. The blue line is the manual choke cable. The large black line on the back of the manifold is the vacuum line for the brake booster. and the two small black lines you see off the linkage is the throttle cable and passing gear kick down cable. It will all make sense in the car. I still got tons more detail work to do in the engine yet.. More to come as I get it done. Thanks for stopping by. Edited March 9, 2017 by microwheel
microwheel Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 (edited) Evening guys, if your wondering why no updates today.... WEEELLLLLLL...... I had the engine almost completely detailed then realized I forgot to cement the front engine cover in place. You can see the gap in the front cover in the pics I posted last night. Apparently when I had test fitted it, I got distracted with something else and when I got back to it, it was fitting so tightly, I thought I had already glued it on... Boy was I wrong and when I found out today, I already had it almost completely detail. Had to take a bunch of stuff off, glue down the front cover and then redo a bunch of detailing lol. But I saved it. Once I finish up the last of the detailing on the engine, I'll post some more pics.. Hopefully tomorrw evening. Tomorrow I have to go with the wife for her maintenance Chemo treatment. It usually takes most of the day, so wont be back in the hobby room till late afternoon or evening. GeeBee Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Superb work Jim, I love all the detail you put into a build ....
R. Thorne Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 As a neophyte model builder (it has been 60 years since I built my last model) I hesitate to question someone of such obvious expertise as yourself, but, shouldn't the Holley carb be the same zinc like color all over and not just in the center as yours is? Your willingness to share the details of your build is much appreciated by newbies like myself. Thanks, Ron.

The carb, for the most part is all aluminum, I did paint the top of the bowl area lite titanium gold to simulate the bowl ring where the air filter housing sits, I suppose I could have painted that area a flat gunmetal to simulate a ring gasket that some had, but it just highlighted the detail better in gold. but other that that the only other area I used a little highlight color was on the butterfly over the front 2 barrels (which was usually brass anyway), the linkage, and on the little nub caps on the front and back of the carb all of which was done in metalizer brass.
slusher Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Impressive finish and shine Jim and fantastic engine detail...
mustang1989 Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Man, I'm gone a couple of days from this thread and just look at all the good progress!!!
microwheel Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 Thanks Joe. Well I busted my you-know-what trying to get some stuff done. Gonna be gone most of the day today, but hope to have some more pic updates of the engine now that I got it pretty much done with the detail work.. Stay tuned everyone, got the engine detailing done late last night and if time allows I will try to get some pics taken this evening and get them posted,
espo Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Beautifully detailed engine, far greater than any I have seen. The paint is outstanding. Only MoPar could pull off those colors and make it look right.
426-Hemi Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Sure does look good! LOVE the hood and the color combination..... Glad you didn't go a "delete" code on the Deck Stripe, that looks GREAT with that green, car with black vinyl roof!
microwheel Posted March 12, 2017 Author Posted March 12, 2017 Morning guys, sorry I didnt get the pics for the completed engine uploaded as promised the other day. We didnt get home from the wife's Chemo treatment till late friday, and yesterday our adopted daughter came to visit from down state, so no time yesterday either. But here are a few pics this morning of the completed engine. I do still have a couple of small touch-up areas of paint to do and a photo-etched fan to attach yet, but that wont get done until just before the engine goes on the chassis and the chassis gets mounted to the body. Next up I hope to finish the detail work on the front brakes and then start working on the interior. Stay tuned and thanks for looking.
microwheel Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Afternoon guys. Im still plugging along on this one. Sorry for the lack of updated. I should have something ready to post in the morning.
microwheel Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 Should have a update to post later this evening. Just waiting for a few things to dry for a bit. I got the engine installed on the chassis, and I got the photo-etched inserts for the front grill installed. What a job it was too.. It took the last couple of days to get the grill openings cut correctly out for the inserts and then get the MCG photo-etched inserts shape bent correctly to fit, even with the fact that the MCG supplied the bend patterns for the inserts. But I finally got them in this morning. Just waiting for the epoxy to cure for a few hours and I will take a few pics and post them.

microwheel Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 Hurry up already! Lol. Standing by for pics... Tim finally got some pics to post. LOL Engine mounted in the chassis Just a little clean up work to do and at least the chassis will be done. I dont have the front suspension assembly glued in to place yet. It's just mocked into place for the pics. Keeping it removable will make adding the front shocks and lower rad hose easier to install later when the chassis gets mounted to the body. but did get the front section of the fuel lines and brake lines installed as well as the front wheen brake lines installed, though they are not permanently attached yet. Grill Pics in following post.
microwheel Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 The Model Car Garage supplied a bend pattern for the the photo-etched grill inserts which I thought was a nice touch. You just cut out the pattern and tape to insert and then bend to shape. Wish it were that simple lmao. But I did get the grill done after a couple of days if messing with it. The finished grill with paint detail and lights added. I did have to BMF the center bar and light rings to make up for the trimming and sanding I had to do to open up the grill for the inserts. But it was better than having to re-chrome the whole grill. More to come as I get it done. Thanks for looking.
taaron76 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Very nice, indeed! The grill sections looks like it is a pain in the butt with all of the contours. Tim
