mrmike Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) I got into a discussion with a fellow about Ford Mustangs one evening and he finally said, "Someone ought to build a modern Spenser Mustang." He was referring to the Spenser For Hire TV series that he knew that I am a fan of. I took that as a challenge and sought out a Revell 2015 Ford Mustang GT kit. My grandson had built one two years ago and has long since stopped playing with it, so I took it apart, cleaned it, primered it with Tamiya Fine Surface Primer and painted it with Model Master Fathom Green Metallic body and Testors One Coat Lacquer Wet Look Clear. and Tamiya TS-29 Semi-Gloss Black interior. I lowered the suspension, added rear view side mirrors, painted the wheels with Alclad II Chrome paint over the flat black wheels, aluminium tubing for exhaust tips, and added license plates used on the '65 Ford Mustang in the TV series printed by me on my printer. Badluck 13 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Mr.Mike that turned out real nice, nice interior work and the color look perfect for the part!
Ron Hamilton Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 I like that one too. Hawk would have been jealous.
donb Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 I like that one too. Hawk would have been jealous.I was thinking the same. Nice build Mike.
Hmann68 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Very nice! I bought a new 88 black mustang gt after Spencer got the new car in the show. Good work on that stang!
mrmike Posted March 23, 2017 Author Posted March 23, 2017 Thank you guys! This was a different kind of build for me. A snap kit can be a different kind of build and detailing challenge. I've started another 2015 Mustang GT snap kit because I enjoyed this one!
mrmike Posted March 26, 2017 Author Posted March 26, 2017 (edited) I had composed a page of headlights for my 2015 Ford Mustang GT and replaced the silver painted lenses with something that looks more like headlights. I plan on doing the same with Spenser's 2015 Mustang GT! I just need to remove the headlight lenses from the body, remove the silver paint and apply the pictures of the headlights behind the lenses. Stay tuned! More to come... Edited March 26, 2017 by mrmike
Matt Bacon Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I like that one too. Hawk would have been jealous.Nah... Hawk would've been driving a Bentley Continental GT Supersports. With a very heavy sports bag in the trunk...best,M.
mrmike Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Actually, if you read the novels, Hawk was very partial to Jaguars and owned an XJ6 or XJ12. In the TV series, he drove a black BMW 635 CSI in the first season and a white BMW 635 CSI in the second and third seasons (probably repainted). In one movie, he drove a black Jaguar XJ6. But, then again, we are talking about "what-ifs" and Hawk could drive a Bentley or some other high-end (read expensive) luxury sedan. Currently in the novels, Spenser is driving a Ford Explorer!
mrmike Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Thanks Jim! I know this is Under Glass, but I am making improvements and I am almost done. The next set of pictures will be of the final completed model. This morning I took my Spenser's Mustang GT apart and removed the headlights. While the headlights were out, I took my Molotow Liquid Chrome Pen and chromed the Mustang emblem on the grille. I removed the silver paint from the lenses, applied a coating of Tamiya X-22 Gloss Clear and installed the headlight picture. I applied a coating of Gloss Clear to the outside of the lenses and when the clear has dried I'll install the lenses into the body. More to come...
mrmike Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Since it's raining out and the paint booth is full of parts to be painted (it's also my photobooth), I took some pictures on the bench.
Badluck 13 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Mr. Mike....Super slick idea on the headlamps looks real, how did you figure the angle and the sizing?
mrmike Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Thanks Mike! The angle had to be straight on towards the headlight and front of the car with the sizing is based on the opening in the model and the lens width and height. I transferred the image to a 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper, although photo paper might have produced a brighter, clearer image to use, but more difficult to shape and glue to the lens.
Badluck 13 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 This was a tip from the "Model Gods" from above being my son and I were discussing the fact he would like to figure a better way of making the Revell snap Raptor headlamps look more realistic Sunday afternoon and whammmm here's the way so I sent him this link....thanks again for the awesome tip Mr. Mike!!!
RandyB. Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Looks great Mike. Nice job on fixing up the headlamps.
bbowser Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 What a great idea on the headlights! They really make the character of the car come alive. Oh yeah, the model is pretty cool too
