Phil Patterson Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I admit I never hung around there all that much, but when I went to check it out, it was gone. Anyone else here know what happened?
Phil Patterson Posted May 30, 2008 Author Posted May 30, 2008 Ahh, they changed the url on me, thanks Steve!
jbwelda Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 looks to me like "SAE" ditched their "E", enthusiasm that is.
Jello Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 That "E" was ditched long time ago....when the magazine was sold to a company that prints magazines and knows nothing about model cars..its been all downhill since. ~ Jeff
Joe Handley Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Haven't been there in a little while and posted in a long while. When they re did their forum and fixed it so we had to re-join to use it, I decided to just not bother. I won't even bother to buy another issue of the magazine until they get a new editor.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Haven't been able to get in since they changed so I've given up on them.
Joe Handley Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Haven't been able to get in since they changed so I've given up on them. That's because they want you to completely re join the forum after the redo, you can't sign in under your old screen name and password.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 That's because they want you to completely re join the forum after the redo, you can't sign in under your old screen name and password. Jumped through all their hoops I did and it still doesn't work.
lordairgtar Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 That's because they want you to completely re join the forum after the redo, you can't sign in under your old screen name and password. Yes, you have to re-up, but you can use your old username and password. I even retained my old post count.
Zoom Zoom Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 That's because they want you to completely re join the forum after the redo, you can't sign in under your old screen name and password. Yes you can, but you have to follow directions to the letter. I couldn't just go to the new site and sign in either, but their customer service emailed me exact instructions and it was painless. Or you can call their customer service and they'll walk you through it. You can choose your old screenname or come up with a new one. I got my old screenname and post count. The new site design takes some getting used to, but that happens with any site that changes. The new forum there is neither fish nor fowl; I'm not crazy about it's design but it does work fine. SA forum members who are subscribers have a good deal more online content to peruse. Face it, the world is moving towards paperless. I don't buy car magazines anymore, everything I need/want I can find online and generally for free. The only time I read car magazines is in a waiting room.
RJWood Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 (edited) I did all the reenlisting, changed my screen name, and now I'm anonymous over there. And prefer it that way. Funny thing is when I go there, I can only stand about 10-15 minutes of it, then log out and come back here. I think with all the colors and the way it is set up it gives me epileptic seizures simalar to some video games. I like it here much better. I am a subscriber to Scale Auto so I get the "Extras" But all that gets you is stuff that I have already read in the magizine. so the extras are really nothing. Edited May 31, 2008 by RJWood
sdrodder Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 i am a member there. I used to go there way more offften befor they changed it. I got up to 80 posts and then i stopped. I still go there but right now i like it better here. But i have to cut some slack to the magazine. Im a 14 year old kid and their mag has helped me out. But still their online thing is basicley junk now. oh well
RJWood Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I agree with you Florian. the magazine is a good resource for modeling, but the web site just don't do it for me. Like Steve Milberry said there are too many experts over there, and I'm not worthy...LOL.
James Flowers Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I didn't have any trouble getting back in on the new site. I just have trouble with not being able to see all of the pictures . I only get a part of the picture. I was told to down load Firefox and the pictures would be fine. I did, but now Firefox is to slow to load pictures. They just screwed up thier site for nothing in my book.I don't go there much now and will most likely drop my subscription too them.
MikeMc Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 So if you do not like it IGNORE IT.......oh you can't.....you want a higher post count.......If you don't like the editor lets not see that he is bringing his son into the hobby..... As far as the new site....the price is right This is sorta like e-mailing FORD that you don't like the new corvette!!!!!

Mike Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 That forum was good for about 1 year after I rediscovered the hobby. After that, the good regulars left because of the bone-headed idiots that can't act like adults. I haven't been there in three years. I still get the magazine though.
Blue coyote Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Well, since I'm on a quest for that higher post count ... I still can't access their forums at all. Regardless of what my cookie settings are, it just keeps kicking me back to the login... Would someone who CAN (and is willing to make that sacrifice) check to see if "fastfloyd" has re-registered there? And if he has, could someone PM him my email and ask him to contact me?

I will give that site credit for helping get me back into the hobby, I "met" a lot of other modelers through that site who had similar interests in modeling, and some that were just plain really darn helpful even though they built totally different stuff. Most of those people ended up drifting off to other sites due largely to some of the misdeeds of other members and the moderators.

Custom Hearse Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) If you don't like the editor lets not see that he is bringing his son into the hobby..... Uh huh.... The editor talks all about his son being brought into the hobby, and yet, the editor BANS a member who asked people to say a prayer for his son who has cancer.... And people wonder why I quit buying their rag, quit the forum, and talked to my LHS, contacted Model Car Magazine, and told them that my LHS wants their magazine instead! Now my LHS carries MCM only. As far as I'm concerned, the "SA editor" can teach his "son" how to make people miserable! Edited June 5, 2008 by Custom Hearse
