Hey guys- does anybody know anything about the 2018 840 h.p.challenger demon?I've heard a few things and would like to know more-I'm a mopar freak

Seems that NHRA has banned it from racing as delivered by the factory. The demon runs the quarter in under ten seconds which requires a roll cage and other safety equiptment. You can't race it till that equiptment is installed.  Also comes in two versions 808 and 840 with upgrade package. 808 hp is 85k. Overkill for the street becuase you aren't going to be able to use all that power. And if you wanr to run it on the track you need to modify it.

Check out You Tube, there are many shorts on this new model. I understand in order to reach the top horsepower rating you're going to need 110 + octane fuel.

You mean to say that the new Dodge Demon is a "High Octane" model? That's a lot of octane just to haul groceries.

It's a factory wheel stander. Been a long time since you could go to your local dealership and get one of those.

Building a car that requires a full cage (if you want to make a second pass) to drag race is just showing off. Probably why I like it!

In reality, most of them will be bought up by collectors. Very few guys will attempt to drive it hard, much less drag race it. Not to mention, I've heard it's just barely under ten seconds, so after you add the weight of the safety equipment it won't be anymore.

I'm not impressed by how much horsepower somebody can buy at a dealership with a wheelbarrow full of money.

Build a real 10-second car, even an 11 or 12 second car, in your own garage, I'll think that's pretty cool.

But spend $80 grand just to show off your bucks, like the kiddies whose daddies bought them new Jags and Vettes in high school? Nah.

I guess it's good the manufacturer can still get away with selling something so completely useless and overpowered in this wussy-world we live in now (don't get me wrong...I LOVE high-horsepower cars, but this is just silly on the street), but would I buy one if I had the jack to spare? Nope.

I am working on one for one of my clients. I sold him one of the first local Challenger Hellcats in 2015, now he wants a Demon. Fingers crossed I get the allocation.

Good luck. I'm kinda glad people buy these crazy things, even though it's not my bag. Hope the deal works for you. :D

From what I saw on the local news piece they did, to get from 808hp to 840hp, you need to add the "Demon Crate" package. Also, they said that the car will not come equipped with a rear, or front passenger, seat but they can be added for $1 each. And, as mentioned earlier, it will be able to lift it's front wheels. Funny how the $1 seat option was the only mention of price in a rather lengthy news piece!

Might as well be a model if its not going to be used. Too me its silly becuase it can't be used on the track without modifying it and as said the added weight will slow it down. I can think of a lot of cars in that price range that would be fun to own.

100 octane, which supposedly comes with a tune that is available in a special package.

I have a business acquaintance with his name on a list at his dealer and is ready to put up a deposit. He invited me to fly out to ND to drive it if he ends up with one. I will definitely take him up on it.
Expected price is around $100k.

They say that only 50% of the engine is shared with the Hellcat, but I thinkk that is BS. Hellcat is around 11.4 PSI, Demon is 14. I bet with a new pulley and tune the Hellcat would gain quite a bit of power.

I agree with everything that's been said.I'd always rather have on old school mopar than this new stuff. The whole point I'm trying to say is in the early 70's we lost horsepower to the max-I just think it's a cool idea.I myself would never buy one when that kind of money could be spent on a pristine older mopar.--it's just that in 2017 we can achieve that kind of factory horsepower.

Don't forget, you also need an NHRA race license to run this car on a track!
