As yall cruise into Tampatown coming frum Orlando on I-4 passing thru I-75 coming up to Hwy. U. S. 92.......

lgbigflag.jpg

It's a 50x30 foot Southern Cross..... yeeeHawww..... :D

For those that don't know....the Southern Cross, thisun...

conflag4.gif

is actually the Cross of St. Andrew, a Christian Martyr. There is a common misperception that the Confederate battle flag (the "Southern Cross") was the national flag of the Confederacy. In reality, the flag we most associate with the Confederacy was strictly a battle flag—and not the only battle flag used. The Confederacy actually changed its national flag three times during the course of the war.

The First National Flag of the Confederacy—the "Stars and Bars"

March 1861 to May of 1863

The true "Stars and Bars"

The original version of the Confederate national flag, called the Stars and Bars, included seven stars representing the first seven states to secede from the Union: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. In its final form, the flag contained thirteen stars (adding the seceding states of Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee, as well as two states that attempted, but failed, to secede: Kentucky and Missouri). The flag's first official use was at the inauguration of Jefferson Davis on March 4, 1861. It was also used in combat, but its similarity to the Stars and Stripes caused confusion on the battlefield.

The Second National Flag of the Confederacy-the "Stainless Banner"

May 1863-March 1865

The "Stainless Banner"

On May 1, 1863, a new national flag was adopted, commonly known as the "Stainless Banner" because of its white field. The "Southern Cross" battle flag appeared in the canton on a white field. The flag's first official use was as the covering of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson's casket. It too served as a battlefield flag. While the new flag avoided the problem of its predecessor—its similarity to the Stars and Stripes of the Union—it introduced its own form of confusion: largely white, it was thought it might be mistaken for a white flag of surrender.

And finally...

The Third National Flag of the Confederacy

March 1865-April 1865

The third national Confederate flag.

The final version of the Confederate flag was adopted just a month before the end of the Civil War. A wide band of red was added to the right side of the Stainless Banner design to distinguish the flag from one of surrender.

Z,

I am applying for a "concealed carry" permit and have a lock box purchased and ready to install in MY car for just such an emergency! So, I applaud FL and hope that OR will follow suit.... but doubt it.

Amen Zeb! Thank you for the wonderful history lesson. Unfortunately, far too many people jump on this issue without thinking and try to change history to fit their idea of what it all means.

Here in GA, we have the same gun laws too but it goes one step ahead than Fla, in GA you have the right to protect yourself in public places and if you think your life is in danger, you have the right to shoot. That law was passed last year. Try doing that in some other state besides Texas & a few others and see happens to your butt! :P

So, ya'll come on down & visit us sumtime folks and enjoy the grits! We really are nice peoples..really.. :o

:D Guys, Believe it or not,Michigan has a conceled weapons law.It was enacted about 5 years ago, and much to the police's surprise, it did not lead to more crime, but a reduction in car-jackings in Deeetroit.Whan about 5or6 attempted car jackers were killed, them a$$ holes started thinkin about the consequences and reprecushions o' they actions!!!Personally I think it's a good law for the law-abbiding private citizen. Now I don't have to carry my weapon illegaly anymore. Having lived in Deeetroit all my life, and working in Southwest, and then Northeast Deeetroit,It was very unfortunately,a simple fact of life here.No matter what kwamis p.r. bull tells ya,this is NOT a safe town to live/visit. Thats a real shame too, cause the majority of the folks are really nice. It's the PUNKS what aint got no upbringin that run this place down, that goes for kwami kilpatrik. :o:P:P

Jairus, you need to come down where I am. The police are not coming out to the rural areas any more. There was an article in the newspaper talking about all the new concealed weapons permits being handed out and they couldn't figure out why. I always assume that many people have a gun on them in some the backwood areas here. They actually put in the newspaper that the police were only on duty from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. which is just an invitation for criminal activity. A lot of the locals said that if you come onto the property at night, be prepared to be "shot". The police quickly changed their minds and decided to have police on active patrol at all hours.

A friend of my brothers who worked for the FBI was told that whenever they went to the south, assume everybody is carrying a loaded firearm.

It makes perfect sense to me, but I'm sure that it came as a big and unpleasant surprise to all the anti-gun activists. And the car jackers, of course. As they old saying goes: "An armed society is a polite society". :(

We had that on the agenda here in Wisconsin, but the liberal butt-tards that run this state shot it down. Thanx to you Zeb for learnin' us carpet baggers 'bout the real history of those flags. I had always wanted to put the Stars and Bars on a Dukes Charger and post it "you know where" and see if the "Sheriff" would catch it. :( :(

Actually Jello, we changed that Law last year too....now we don't have ta turn our backs and run frum truble....now we just pull out our .45 autos and Blast tha punks to Hell and gone...... When crooks know that civilians "Carry" yu'd be surprised how quickly robbery disappears...... and personally, I prefer that point 45 cal over tha 9mm. Hit 'em wid a 45 slug, they stay down. Oh and BTW, we teach our daughters how to carry their weapons in their Gucci purses......

I was born in GA but spend 45 years living in Fla til I moved back to GA 5 years ago and good to know Fla. fixed that law too! My Father is a retired Police Chief & living in north Fla. The use of deadly force language was never too clear in courts and nice to know its a lot more clear now. GA passing that law is updated from the old law that you can use deadly force to protect your family, home and self anywhere in GA as long as its a justifiable situation and guarantees you will not be charged with anything while using deadly force to protect yourself & all. Its clear enough for me now!

In most states, protecting your family, home, vehicle ( carjacking) and self might land you in jail if the language is not clear and also allows the crooks or their families to suit you for millions just for killing the little roach while he/she is robbing you.

I agree, a .45 does indeed do a better job and its the weapon I prefer the most. As for the young ladies carrying their weapons in purses or ..in some other area on them, anybody that does not teach their daughters & ladies about the use of weapons must not care much for them and I'am all for civilians carrying weapons for protection and it does work cause when the crooks know decent folks are armed, the crime rate does go down. Thanks for the Fla update! :D

Just a couple of weeks ago, a guy here in town came home to find someone carrying out stuff from his house. The burglar pulled a .38, so the homeowner pulled a 9mm and emptied it in the burglar. The cops just patted his back, said "Well done" and didn't charge him with a thing. I'd call that fair.

But then again, I don't think that this means that the burglar's relatives can't file a civil lawsuit for something, lowlifes like that can always find a sleazy lawyer that offers them a juicy contingency case.

'Vigilante' gets revenge on metal shop thieves

June 04, 2008 7:18 PM EDT

VIENNA, Maine - The owner of a machine shop where thieves stole $3,000 worth of scrap steel, iron and aluminum wasn't going to let it happen again. After Saturday night's theft, Joseph Lord loaded his shotgun and laid low, expecting the thieves to return. They came back on Tuesday, in broad daylight.

When Lord saw their 2008 F-250 pickup truck, he shot out its tires and windshield and blasted its radiator, Kennebec County Sheriff Randall Liberty said.

The startled thieves took off on foot, but investigators quickly tracked down the truck's operator, who will be charged with theft, Liberty said. Charges are pending against an accomplice, the sheriff said.

Liberty said he discourages the use of guns to protect property. In this case, Lord told investigators he wanted to disable the vehicle so the criminals couldn't escape.

"I can understand the frustration that Mr. Lord must have been experiencing," Liberty said. But, he added, "We don't want to see anyone get hurt over property."

I'am with you on that but in todays "PC" world & cheap sleazy lawyers good at finding 'holes' in laws, the use of deadly force language needs to be more clear and thats why Ga & Fla updated the laws. I recall a situation in Fla years ago when the homeowner woke up after his wife heard someone in the living room and the gentleman fired at the 'shadow' ( crook) in the living room and killed him. Sounds like a open & shut case right?...

it was no such thing as he was charged with killing the guy whos backpack was filled with stolen stuff and after a year of BS & sweating it, the charges were dropped but his family filed a civil lawsuit and won 100,000 bucks and the original suit was for 2 million.....The homeowner later died & his death was caused by all the stress & ###### he got for protecting his home.....which he later losted in court.....Sadly, Stuff like this happens all the time in American.

CAN ANYONE SAY 4WHEEL AND OFFROAD JAMBOREE??!!??!! YEEEHHHHAAAAAWWWWWW!!!! HILLBILLIES RULE!! Cant wait fer the Jamboree this year!! I've been every year since I was 9. I'm 27 now. Northern by birth, SOUTHERN by choice!! I love southern people! They may carry weapons, but as long as you're not a threat, they'll do whatever they can fer ya! And to whoever thinks the civil war was racial- YOU NEED TO PICK UP A BOOK AND RE-READ THAT CHAPTER IN AMERICAN HISTORY!! Blacks fought side-by-side with the confederates by choice! We'd have it made if the south would have won!! They fought for THEIR rights that were being taken away as they are now!!! ###### YANKEES!!! As far as self-protection goes- ITS BETTER TO OWN A GUN AND NEVER NEED IT THAN NOT TO OWN A GUN AND NEED IT!!! My firearm of choice is the Smith And Wesson 500 MAGNUM! Never have to worry about jamming when your life depends on it! It'll blow the intruder right back out the door! This thing is a monster! You'll think before you fire!! :D

Its funny that folks would assume southerners would carry a loaded firearm. I mean after all what good would one be with no ammo.

Seriously, I'm from southwest Louisiana and I really don't know anyone that does not carry some sort of protection with in arms reach at all times. Its been that way since long before I was born and will always be that way until big brother prys it from our icy cold lifeless grip. We are peace loving people but we don't take B.S. from those who are not.

Oh man, I love all y'all!!!

Ollie, it's good to hear that the police down there have things right. As soon as we can sell our house, I'm returning to my heritage: My grandfather moved our family from TN to Indiana, and I'm taking it back!!!!

Zeb, when you study the ballistics, the .45 ACP is a vastly superior self defense round over the 9mm. It's also much safer too- the 9mm has a reputation as an overpenetrator.

Never forget that my guns have killed one less person than Ted Kennedy's car.

Anyone up for rolling some cans?

I remember years ago Gordon Baxter relating in his Car and Driver column about living way outside of Silsbee, Texas. The sheriff told him that if he ever shot someone on his front porch to "just drag him inside before we get there".

:D .45's have too much recoil for me.My wife and daughter are both proficient in the use of handguns. They both prefer the 9MM.So do I. ALL my handguns are 9MM (with "Blu-Glazer" rounds) My personal piece is a SigSauer P-230 W/Glazers(it's a 9MM short)Let me tell ya THAT bad boy will stop ANYONE! The cops ain't too crazy about 'em cause the can penetrate Kevlar. But I don't plan to shoot cops, so I don't care. You can find these rascals at most gunshows about 15/20 bucks for 12 rounds. They expand when they hit and are known as trauma rounds in most E.R.'s.Try 'em, if your life depends on 'em,you'll be GLAD you did!!!Nothin against .45's but it's too heavy for me.Just a personal thing. :D:P

To all the people that say this flag is all for hatred and that it was racist, HERE YOU GO!!! Now, I'm not racist, I don't believe in what the KKK and other groups do, and I respect black men, when they treat me with repsect also, respect is earned not given.

this one said Confederates come in ALL COLOURS

H.K. Edgerton, a black man who is known for wearing a Confederate uniform in honor of his "black Confederate" ancestors recently traveled to Murfreesboro in support of maintaining the current building name. "How very proud I am of them. They are standing against Southern cultural genocide," Edgerton said. He went on to say that "The Ku Klux Klan under Nathan Bedford Forrest was certainly not a terrorist organization," and "Forty-two black men rode with Nathan Bedford Forrest."

Winbush saw it differently, and he was retiring. He no longer worried about what some "Yankee boss" would think.

The title is, "Black Men say Rebel Flag flies for freedom"

"I am marching for freedom," Hervey said. "The battle flag stands for freedom and states' rights. The U.S. flag is the flag of slavery. It flew over 100 years of slavery, and Native Americans were annihilated under that flag."
