FordRodnKustom Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 It's beautiful Ron. Nothing wrong with simplicity, building and finishing these kits when we were kids has to be a factor in so many of us still enjoying the hobby. Very nice work...what black paint did you use and is it rubbed or buffed? Thanks Pete. I used Testor's Model Master Classic Black from the can decanted and sprayed out with my trusty old Paasche VL. I used a polishing kit in some places on the body to remove some dust nits and then the whole thing was buffed.
PARTSMARTY Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 That looks fabulous and I absolutely love the mean look !!!
John Goschke Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 (edited) This build is outstanding! Those who would dismiss a model like this as being too simplistic should realize the level of craftsmanship involved in getting this old kit to look this good, particularly when one starts with a later issue as Ron did here, with all the mold lines, sinkmarks, flash and poor fit. Note that he even took the time fill the gigantic slots in the firewall for the hood hinges – very cleanly, too! The two-sided concept, picking up the differences between the box and instruction illustrations is brilliant. There's more here than meets the eye – this build is as much about the origins, longevity and shared experience of our hobby and the place this old kit has in it as it is about this one model. As a past and future master of this style of model Ron, this one is sort of your minimalist Zen masterwork. My only frustration as that I crave additional photography! TarheelRick Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Absolutely beautiful 40 Coupe. This particular kit was also the first kit I ever had, got it for Christmas in 1959. As soon as I opened this thread and saw that first photo, waves of nostalgia came over me. Thank you for sharing this one with us.

Ace-Garageguy Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 As said above, she may be in a "simple" build style, but she's an outstanding model, a real beauty, and a testament to how good a "simple" build can look with applied skill and care.Your work may inspire me to try something along these lines. Though I'm fully aware it takes time to achieve results like this, it also avoids the scale-re-engineering rabbit holes most of my models seem to fall into.Beautiful, beautiful model.
FordRodnKustom Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 Many thanks again everyone! I really appreciate the comments and discussion. I'm very glad that my builds can provoke the fond memories some of you describe,,as they do me!

I know I should take a few more but I was anxious to get the build posted!https://public.fotki.com/bigfordpilot/my_built_model_cars/built_models/in_progress/amt-40-ford-coupe/ Edited July 28, 2017 by FordRodnKustom
Pete L. Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 (edited) Great job, I love the box cover builds from "back in the day" ! After all these are the pics that got me hooked and I still like to do a box cover build now and then ! I love the sinister look of the car, very inspirational to say the least !!!
