crowe-t Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I might try some paint from Paintscratch.com. It says on their website it's Universal Basecoat and handles like lacquer paint. They say to thin it with lacquer thinner? Is this paint any good for airbrushing? Are the Paintscratch colors authentic factory colors?
Foxer Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I've used PaintScratch factory color paints many times am very pleased with the results. Most of my builds are of cars I have owned and their factory colors are correct. I usually use an airbrush but have tried their spray cans recently and have been pleased with my results with them.I highly recommend you try them.
crowe-t Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Thanks, I'll give their paint a try. Do you have any pictures of your cars painted with it?
Foxer Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 (edited) I don't have any shiny photos as the ones I have are of my daughter's cars which were pretty rough and the paint was done so. I was trying to make the paint look old, so don't take that as a good example of the paint itself. The green reliant is a metal die cast. The colors were spot-on matching the factory colors. Neither paint job was polished or clear-coated to keep it rough. Edited August 5, 2017 by Foxer
crowe-t Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Thanks for posting the pictures! I remember following the blue van build. That was a fun build to watch.
MrObsessive Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Years ago, I was building this '55 Ford Victoria, and I used Paintscratch's products....................... I was pretty pleased with what I got as the color is exact for the '55's Regency Purple and white. Unfortunately, I never finished it as the bodywork I did in widening the roof (a modified '53 Lindberg Ford), I can see where it's showing through the paint now. Someday, I'll take it all apart and start over............however right now it's not on my priority list. Someone mentioned on this board years ago when I was building this that their paint doesn't take well to certain clearcoats. I remembered that, and IIRC I used Tamiya's acrylic clear for the purple. The white was just rubbed out and polished as it's a solid color and needs no clear. You might want to keep that in mind if you're going to order from them.
Foxer Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Thanks for posting the pictures! I remember following the blue van build. That was a fun build to watch. I did just find photos of my Dad's 92 Crown Vic with Paintscratch factory paint, just in mockup after painting. Bill mentioned clear coat and PaintScratch does have a clear compatable with their paint if that's seems a problem.
my66s55 Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Just checked this out and book marked it. Hard to find sierra gold used on 56 Chevy's. I want to paint the Nomad like this.
crowe-t Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Doug, I believe Model Car World(MCW) has Sierra Gold. Mike.
Mike Chernecki Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I did a '56 Nomad in Laurel Green / Crocus Yellow from Paintsctach.com. the color was a perfect match. However, I could not find a thinner that worked will with the paint, I even tried their thinner but it dried too fast. I have since redone it in base clear from scale finishes without problem. But l think the PaintScatch colors were a closer match.
