Mahogany Rush Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 (edited) I wanted to build an old vette with dual headlights and this reissue looked like the winner. It was NOT. This MPC re-issue was garbage to build. Fit issues, over-pouring of the sprue so that the part numbers were not legible as well as excessive trimming of sprue needed. This kit is a 6 in 1, which means there are so many ways to build it that is did get confusing for the simple mind. I would not recommend this particular version at all, unless of course you need to brush up on your cursing skills! The end result was just ok. I went with a Tamiya Candy Lime since I have no green cars! Did the inlets gloss white and added extra BMF on the tail fins. The engine is the kit one which is a 283 with a blower. Nice fit for this although the headers were a complete joke. Of course I added bigger Mickey Thompson Sportsman meats to it which were a tight fit without cutting any wells out. I did trim the outside wells at the bottom just a tad. Thanx for looking! Edited September 7, 2017 by Mahogany Rush
Dann Tier Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Extremely nice!!!! love the colors, stance, and how cleanly built it is!!!
Snake45 Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Whine and moan all you want, but that's a pretty nice looking model!
smhardesty Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Looks pretty darned good to me! I like the colors, for sure. An eye catcher.
Mahogany Rush Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 Thanx for the replies. Yes the model is a dog, but it came out pretty good nonetheless. It's just that I had a hell of a time with it. I wasn't sure about the color when I picked it, but it did fit well with the white inlets and interior. Be warned if you buy this one though.
Metaldrumm Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Thats pretty nice, nice color fits that car.
DumpyDan Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Well done, looks great and the foil job looks perfect
espo Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Fit issues aside your build turned out very nice.
donb Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 You pulled off nice build even if the kit was crappy. Very cool color combo too!
John Goschke Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Nice job in spite of the issues! This kit has been around since the mid-late 1960s so the molds may be a kinda tired, which contributes to the flash problem – but better to much plastic than too little!I really like the color combo. I've been wanting to see that Candy Lime Green on a model for awhile, since I've bought a couple cans cheap and haven't found the right project for it yet, this gives me an idea!If you still have an urge to build a quad-light 'vette you should seek out the Monogram Pro-modeler '58 which has been reissued by Revell I think, it's a much better kit.
Hmann68 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 For the trouble you had it looks fantastic!
carrucha Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Good job on making a lousy kit look nice. I finished this kit last year and it was fighting me all the way to the finish. It is one of the worst engineered kits I have ever built. Nothing seems to fit well. It seems that MPC slapped together a kit with parts from different Corvette kits. The interior tub is from a 1957 kit, they even include a 1957 Corvette dash. The hardtop is missing the rear quarter windows so I had scratch build that. The chassis is too narrow for the body so the body would keep sliding off the chassis until I glued styrene blocks to the inside of the body to keep it from sliding out. The only good thing about this kit is the box art.
