The Junkman Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Last week, on a whim, I bought an AMT 1/43rd 1969 Mustang kit, sealed. Once I got it home I actually looked at it and...there are issues. Here's the kit listed on an Ebay auction-no connection with the seller or sale but for illustration purposes only.https://www.ebay.com/i/372094873524?chn=ps&dispItem=1Without opening it, I already see there is a serious problem with the headlamps. The ones mounted in the grill are HUGE and the ones in the facia are severely undersized. Has anyone built this one and can offer some tips or should it remain in the pile of doom?
cobraman Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Is there a trim ring you can just paint black so they blend in with the grill ?
unclescott58 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 The early versions of this kit had seperate parts for the outside headlights. The later ones the outer headlights molded into the body, and had to painted in. In my opinion, the earlier versions looked a lot better. The headlamps matched better. I think we have Matchbox to thank for the modifications made to this kit.
The Junkman Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 Is there a trim ring you can just paint black so they blend in with the grill ?Not really sure but the inner headlamps are so big that they're like a zit on a beauty queen, the overall effect might be great but all you notice is the flaw.
vamach1 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I guess in that scale the size difference is more noticeful.
vamach1 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Now that you mention it they look pretty ridiculous :-(
randyc Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Use Cobraman's suggestion of painting around them to make them a llittle smaller.
