just_a_doodz Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Well Im new here and Im sure there was a introduce yourself thread somewhere.....(dunno where) But anyway...here are a couple of my new builds.I quit building 14-15 years ago and recently started back.Just looking for some input and ideas to be better.Ive "lurked" on here enough to know there are TONS of talent on here.So here goes. Two for the show.... First is an AMT 1950 Ford Nostalgic Series I bought from Big-Lots.The second is the VERY nice 1932 Ford Roadster from Revell. The 1950 has been fully shaved (all trim, trunk hinges etc. etc.)The Roadster is box stock but I left the taillights off because they are HUGE.PICS..... The Ford Convertible was painted Testors Lime Gold Metallic. The Roadster is Testors One Coat Lacquer Blazin Black. Thanks for looking.AND I hope there isnt a photo-per-post limit cause I bet I went over...LOL.
randx0 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 great builds and welcome back . you've got a nice clean builds there I would just suggest tryout a new technique that interests you but don't go to crazy trying 4 or 5 new techniques at once .
idlewild Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 They are two nice build's but I really like the 50 ford and choice of wheels. T.J.
CB Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Hey Doodz, welcome! Good place to start postin, and 2 fine lookin rides. That 50 looks like a real comfy cruisin machine, even with them wheels. I'm a dyed in da wool Cragar S/S man, aint crazy bout the 'big' wheels, but.......still, I could dig cruisin in this convert. That interior looks so inviting. Nice roadster too. Love this picture! Why's it up on them sockets or whatever them are ? Love to see it settin on the ground. Really nice, just black & chrome. Lookin forward to seein mo yo stuffs
MrObsessive Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Welcome back to the hobby! You've got some really nice clean builds there! As was mentioned, don't try to learn a bunch of new things all at once! Maybe with each new build try a different technique. I've been building for 30 years and still haven't tried everything yet!
Clay Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I hope there isnt a photo-per-post limit cause I bet I went over...LOL. 10 per post is what I've found.
george 53 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Doodz, They're both lookin good.Really like the color on the 50.Yeah, you'll learn alot from these guys, caz they're some of the best, IF NOT THE best. But it all does come with doin it,and patience is where its at. Don't try to do too much to fast or you'll just disapoint yourself.Enjoy.
FordRodnKustom Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Welcome back to the hobby. looks like your off to a great re-start! I really like the '50.
Harold Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Welcome, and great work on your Fords- especially the '50.
sdrodder Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Well first of all welcome to the board . You will learn alot from these guys here but as mentioned above dont try and learn 10 techniques at once. Take your time and learn it right. As for your cars. I love both of them. I am not a realy big fan of big rims but i have to say they look great on your cars. I realy like the color choice on the 50. Did you have to put any kind of base coat down as in white black silver...? Cant wait to see more of your builds and posts.
Andy Wyatt Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Welcome! Normally I'm not a big fan of the big wheel/low profile tire deal but they look really nice on that '50 and the color is perfect! Nice stuff! I've been building for 30 years and still haven't tried everything yet! Yeah right Bill! What's left to try? A gas tank that holds real gas and a working gas gauge! LOL!!!

First off let me say thanks to everyone for the kind words and the nice comments!!I really appreciate it. On to the question of paint.I got VERY lucky with this can...Ive never had much luck with Testors enamel BUT I tried something different this time.I heated the can in hot (not boiling) water for about thirty seconds.I sprayed it on top of two coats of Testors Gray Primer. It doesnt have a clear coat on it but has a very nice shine (i.m.o.)I know a lot of (ehem) older guys dont care for the big wheel look but I like the Chip Foose/Roy Trepanier type designs.Dont get me wrong...a well done traditional rod is just as cool.I am going to try my hand at some more styles as my abilities improve (channeling, chops etc.)And I believe with this site help I may be on the right track.Look for pics of my AMT 1957 Chevy (the one with the alligator) On The Workbench.Once again...thanks for all the encouragement!!Later...(sorry for rambling)
