After the umptheenth time loosing a part , I so far cured the problem by thumb tacking an old grocery apron to the edge of the bench , then when I sit down to work , I put the loop over my head and have a nice catch for any parts that try to escape .

Gee, I can understand losing a tiny part on a shag carpet. But what explains where one 1/25 slick went to on my wood floor a week ago?

Once found a missing part from a model my brother brought to me 2 weeks later in my gravel driveway!

Suggestion if you have a hose type vacuum cleaner insert a piece of your wife's old hosiery in the hose to form a pocket in the hose and vacuum the area, the hosiery will catch the parts the carpet monster upchucks

Yep, happened to me.  In addition to model car parts, I have lost a screw from a bicycle that has been MIA for over a year.
