59 Impala Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Just for the fun of it, I'm going to try and fix this part. I think it's from a 59 Edsel, not sure. I used a piece of tape on the back side of the bumper and used fingernail resin to fill in the hole. I also am trying to clean up the grill part. I've removed the glue residue and will try and smooth it all out. Then, I'll probably use the Molotow chrome in an air brush to paint it again. Here are some pics of what I did tonight. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
1930fordpickup Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Looks better. That filler sure gets hard to sand when you forget about it.
59 Impala Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Got a little done on repairing this grill. I sprayed the Molotow chrome refill thru my air brush and it holds up perty good. I have to do a little more work on the grill and repaint it. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Thanks guys. This part is all that I have for the 59 Edsel. I just wanted to see if I could fix it. I have a little more work to do and then I'll respray the chrome. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 Well, she don't look to bad. I just got this done a few minutes ago and I'm happy with the results. I don't have the car, but I was able to fix this grill and bumper. The Molotow chrome is great stuff. I sprayed this with my air brush. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 Here are before and after pictures of the grill and bumper. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
#1 model citizen Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I have never heard of "fingernail resin". Is this something you'd find at a beauty counter?Nice job on the bumper/grille, BTW!
59 Impala Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 Yes John. I got it at Sally's Beauty Supply. It comes in pink and clear powder and the liquid is kinda purplish pink. The liquid does have a strong odor, so, you have to use it in a well ventilated area. It's a lot like dental resin. The stuff smells the same. And, thanks fer the kind comment. Dan
ChrisBcritter Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Excellent save, Dan! Thanks for showing the results of the airbrushed chrome ink.
59 Impala Posted November 22, 2017 Author Posted November 22, 2017 Thanks guys. This was an experiment and I think it turned out pretty good and I am going to use the ink for more repairs in the future. I will still use BMF also. They both have their uses and compliment each other. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 Thanks Andy. While going thru my spare parts I found the rear bumper for the Edsel. I'm in the process of fixing it also. Not much to do, mostly srpaying it with the chrome ink. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 While going thru the parts box, I found this rear bumper for the 59 Edsel. I stripped the chrome and fixed the small blemishes and just sprayed the chrome a few minutes ago. Now, all I need is the car. Ha ha. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
Eric Macleod Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Somebody needs to send you an Edsel! I wish I had one to offer you. I really appreciate this posting. This will help me considerably with an upcoming project. Nice work here.
59 Impala Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 Thanks Eric. I'm glad that you can use this. I have bid on a 59 Edsel glue bomb on e-bay and now I'll just wait to see if I get it. If not, no biggy. Dan
